turn signal rapid blinking..
so, I installed some red LED rear turn signal lights today instead of the old amber bulbs and now when i turn my blinker on, it goes really fast.. The LED is a 12v and the old bulb is a 12v also.. is there a way to stop this or do i have to put my ambers back in? i would prefer keeping the red cuz it looks nicer but the quick flashing is really annoying.. thanks.

noo it blinks fast inside and out..
my old bimmer used to do that when one of the signal lights died out, but not when all lights were working.
--its something with the LEDs becuase i remember reading something about this in the past but just cant find it anymore.

here is a link to some discussion about them. its in the 3rdG forum but still im sure you can get some advice from there i havent read through the whole thing

thanks.. resistors seem like a lot of work that i dont know how to do and a waste of power as they made em sound, i may just go back to stock or look for a red bulb thats not LED..

Just do the resistors, it really isnt as hard as it sounds. I did it for my car, and for a buddies car. You can do it on the front bulbs and it will work for the back too, or you can do it for the back bulbs

These are the flasher modules

But I don't know what model to get and how to change it.

You could just get yourself some LEDs with the resistors built in if you think it's too much work to solder in a resistor. They scrub off only a teeny bit of energy as heat. Nothing like what an incandescent bulb puts out. Besides, even if it was throwing away 55 watts of energy (in reality, more like 2 or 3), that's all of .07 HP. Are you really going to miss it?
The delay in the blinking is regulated by the amount of time it takes a capacitor to fill up. If you're blinker circuit has much lower than the designed resistance, the capacitor fills up way too quickly and changes states (on/off) very fast. The resistor just slows down the rate the capacitor fills up.

idk, that sounds like a good idea, how much do the LEDs with built in resistors usually go for? any idea?

I haven't heard of resistors in the bulb but your problem is that the car thinks that it has dead bulbs because they aren't capable of recognizing the bulb because the watts of the bulb is lower than the factory one. If you go on http://v-leds.com you can buy 2 resistors for $9.99 I believe and they give you instructions online on how to install them. Once you put the resistors in everything should go back to normal.

okay im thinking ill try the resistors, but ill probably put in the stockies for now. and ill have to solder them correct?
stupid question: is soldering pretty much like welding? except smaller things? (not exactly the same, but similar atleast?)

you use the clamps that come with the resistors. They clamp onto the resistor wire, and the bulb wire. Youll get directions with the resistors.
