Tune Up Maintenance Question?
Tune Up Maintenance Question?
I bought my TL in early December, It's a 99 and it came with alittle more than 30k. According to the records the previous owner never had a tune up done, I have about 34k now and my question is should I get a tune up now? If not, when? Also, I'm no guru on cars or maintaining them, what exactly does a tune up entail?

The manual is real helpful. Follow the severe driving schedule and you should be fine.
I have a 2001, but already have 32K miles on it. I'm not going to do a tune up until probably 50-60K miles.
Since you bought it used...you could do the following for peace of mind.
Change the oil.
Change the tranny fluid.
Change the air filter or put on a CAI
Rotate tires
Clay bar and wax the car
Lexol the interior
Wash the floor mats
Some people change the AC filter or something as well, but I'm not going to do it until 60Kmiles.
Check the coolent levels.
Brake fluid flush (i'm not going to do mine until 50-60Kmiles)
Hope this helps. Good luck.

Sorry, I forgot to answer the question.
A tune up is usually changing the spark plugs, air filter, tranny fluid flush, changing distributor cap/wires if the car has them, oil change, sometimes a fuel filter change if applicable, brake flush, coolant flush.
Some garages include all this in a tune up...some don't...each vary.
Hope this helps!
