TSX Tranny vs TL Tranny

Are they the same? I drove the TSX loaner several while my car was at the dealership and it certainly felt different. The tranny in my car still feel as good as the day I bought the car but the TSX one feels much different. Is it because of the engine it's attached to? I mean there is a 60hp difference between the I4 and V6.

Can anyone clarify?

They are different units. I put together a quick comparison of the TL and TSX transmission diagrams.

pure, where do you find all of these diagrams and do they describe in detail the parts #'d and how they function in their application, dependent of type of car of course?

I get them on HGPeC -- Honda Genuine Parts e-Catalog

And yep, each numbered part in the diagram has a part number and description. But it doesn't say what their functions are. They assume that you know, because it's a corporate web site to Honda engineers and such. It's not available to the dealers, but they do have their own system that's pretty much like it with prices; HGPeC doesn't list prices because it's basically for information-purpose only.

It requires an account.

www.acuraautomotiveparts.org has a very similar system, though.

Not just horsepower. It's the torque, from bigger engine displacement, that can do most damage to the clutch plates.

How is it different? Is it different in a bad way, a good way, or indifferent?

Obviously the TSX tranny is not designed to handle the torque output of the 3.2L-V6.

Apparently, neither is the TL transmission.

So far the 3rd gen TL auto transmission is holding up ok with the 3.2L-V6.

Well, yeah, but that's the 3rd gen. We're talking about the 2nd gen in the 2nd gen section.

Forgotten all about this thread. Thank you for the images. So what about the 3rd Gen's tranny? How different is it compared to the 2nd Gen?

Not much, really. The basic powertrain architecture was virtually a carryover from the 2nd generation to the 3rd generation.

So having a new 3rd gen tranny is better thana refurb 2nd gen one...

The 3rd gen's drive-by-wire throttle system and corresponding PCM program save the tranny from self-destruction.

Get yourself a 3rd gen TL, and you'll be one happy man.
