TSB for warp rotor on 2002+ TL/TLS
#3
Correct. There is no TSB for the '02s and newer. The alleged problem of brake pads being made of too-hard material that prematurely warped the rotors was fixed as part of the many changes to the '02 (and '03). *However*, even with that being said my dealer was happy to turn my rotors at 14,000 miles because I had the warping.

Tustin Acura resurfaced and gave me new pads at about 13,000 miles. That didnt work so they gave me new rotors about 100 miles later. Now at 25,000, my rotors are again warped and they are not willing to do anything for me. They said they did it once as a courtesy and that any more work would be at my cost. Do you think that if I went to a different dealer, they might be willing to do something? Or will all of my records show up on their computer?

Yes, that's what I'm wondering too....Like if you go to one dealer, and if that dealer turn you down, and you go to the next one...will the next one see it on the record??? Are the dealer's computer links up??

Well like the guy said before he did it as a courtesy. Acura doesn't have to replace the rotors...they are parts that wear. My rotors were a little warped at 16k and I spent forty bucks to turn them. Don't get me wrong I think it's BS a little also that the rotors can handle the heat. But then again these aren't race cars either. When your hard on the brakes they're going to get warped. I had to upgrade my brakes on my Suburban because GM has the worst brakes known to man. After the second week of owning it the brakes squealed. I took it in the replaced the rotors, and pads, and put desquealing grease on them. Three days later the same thing...I took it back in and told the guy I didn't spend as much as I did on this thing to have it sqeal every where I go. He took it and called me later to pick it up. When I picked it up they had put more grease on it and gave me a letter saying they were not going to warranty it anymore, and that the squealing is suppose to happen with semi metallic brake pads. I was so beeping pissed. Anyway I had to upgrade to a kit called Praise Dyno Brakes. Freaking AWESOME brake! I refer anyone looking for brakes (for a truck) to these guys. They are cryogenically treated slotted rotors to stay cool, and semi kevlar pads.
By far the best brake kit I've bought. OEM stuff just doesn't cut it when your looking for performance.
Good luck trying to convince them, but it's going to continue. You might as well start looking for a good upgrade kit.

Totally, depends on the dealer, I had mine turned at 10k and now at 20k they are doing it again. I have a 2002 TL-S, and I have come to the conclusion that these brakes just suck. At any speed over 100 they pulse really bad and just don't like to stop. You should try to use engine braking as much as possible by downshifting. You can go into 3rd around 105mph, 2nd around 65mph, and 1st around 31mph if you don't use sportshift.

I've got just over 12K on my 02 TLS and they are rabbing and pulling indicating they are warped.
So I'll find out what happens in a few weeks when I take it in.
This seems to indicate that there is a problem with the rotor design or pads. Either way, my breaking has been no more extreem than the past cars I've owned. Each of them lasted very long, with one car going 68K miles without any probs.
So this product is inferior for some reason.

I had my rotors resurfaced under warranty at 6,000 miles, and now at 25,000...they're gone again. I was told they only do it once under waranty, but im gonna find out. In my opinion, its B.S because these brakes really should not be warping so easily....and they are not cheap to get redone by the acura dealer, that's for sure!!!!

I read on a thread before, while searching for "vibration", unrelated to warpped rotors, more to do with wheel balancing, bent wheels, etc..., that at certain speeds, warpped rotors could be felt through a steering wheel vibration, usually when traveling over 70 mph. I was under the impression that warped rotors, no mater how slight, was ONLY determined when the brakes are applied with GUSTO, as a high frequency stearing wheel oscillation, rather than a vibration. But I am notoriously wrong :-D

The typical indications of a warped rotors are:
- car pulls to one side or the other when brakes are applied. Note: depending on the degree of warpage, the pulling will be felt at various speeds and or brake pressure. So you will need to try braking at different speeds and pressure.
- brake pedal pulses (pulsesation feedback through the brake pedal) - again, depending on the severity, it will be felt at different speeds or brake pedal pressure.
While either of these is not a given fact of warping, you should have your brakes checked.
There could be secondary problems like loose rotor bolts, bad master cylinder, scorched/glazed rotor and or pads.
So the best thing is to have a qualified mechanic check every thing
out.
