Trying longer oil change interval

Based on several posts here I am somewhat hesitantly trying longer interval changes. Why I am willing to experiment on the most expensive car I have even owned I have no idea. Got Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil and a Mobil 1 Extended Performance filter. For the $40 those things cost me I would like to go 7,500 and perhaps (gasp) even 10,000 miles. It's the only way I can justify in my logical mind paying twice as much as I would pay down the street for someone else to change my dino oil.

The only thing is I could not find 5W-20 in the two stores I tried, but I can't see anything wrong with the 5W-30 I wound up buying.

Since I don't plan on keeping the car to 200,000 miles and I have 18,000 now, I'll probably never know. I worry a little about the engine warranty in the remote chance something happens in the next year (when the 4 year warranty expires). They could argue I went past 7,500 miles.

If you really want to know how long you can go, bobistheoilguy.com has some awesome forums, and you can get an oil analysis with someplace (blackstone labs is what I'm going to do) and make the most out of it.

Ok the MANUAL states 7500 on dino, unless severe driving (which i kinda doubt you are) 7500 on syn you will be more than safe.BROWN orBLACK dont mean the oil is bad. If it didnt change color id be worried. Ive been doing the 10-15k intervals (which my driving is severe since it idles all day long and is driven very hard) for along time now and my engine is at 200k Miles, doenst burn a drop. Quit worring about it.

oil change

Did 10,00 mi. then I changed it myself. had the same oil, and filter. In the time the cars sat for a total of a month ( I am a Flight attendant). Car ran perfectly got excellent mileage going through the mountains of Pennslyvania. After that I changed the oil, oil filter, and air filter. Still like the car, and will keep it till it drops...

Agreed. Oil changes every 3K miles are a huge waste of money. I just changed mine with the Mobil 1 Extended 5w-30 and the Extended life filter from Mobil 1- I'm going at least 7500 miles on this change, and probably will go closer to 10K. I've always used synthetic in the car (peace of mind I guess), and at 85K, it doesn't leak or burn a drop.

boy you guys crack me up, your not running a race engine at 8k rpms for 100's of miles. its a V6 that see's 3krpm for 2sec maybe. relax and by using good synthetic oil, a good filter, you'll have no issues.
