Trunk Light Indicator Problem -- Constant On

Hey all,

over the past month, my trunk light indicator light has been on. i have pulled out the trunk light bulb so that it wouldn't drain my battery when the doors are locked.

the weird thing though is that my doors will lock and the car will chime when i press the lock button on my remote (indicating that all the doors/trunk is closed).

So i went in today and replaced the trunk latch mechanism. however the light is still on!! i have looked at the service manual (page 22-364). test the circuits in the trunk latch mechanism (the one i have currently the the replacement that i bought). both work properly.

Do any of you guys/girl know what might be wrong? I'm hopping to make that trunk light on that dash go away!

Perhaps the trunk's latching mechanism could be adjusted to allow the switch to release ?

3.2TLc, thanks for the reply.

My trunk works perfectly, opens and closes correctly. Im not sure what you mean by "adjusting the latch mechanism to allow the switch to release?"

My problem is that the trunk indicator stays on on my dashboard while i am driving.

Does anyone have any experience/suggestions?

Thanks

totally guessing using logic here: there has to be a `door switch' that gets depressed when trunk closed- there are ones for each of the doors and one for the trunk on every car made in the last few decades

Might not be right at the visible latch,
or its part of the latch/motor mechanism- remove the trunk liner panel and start looking

^^^ Yeah, while it may not be easy to see or find.....there's got to be some kind of switch or sensor somewhere, IMO. This is not a common issue and replacing the latch mechanism leads me to believe
if it's not internal within the latch, than ya gotta look around the trunk's perimeter edges a bit closer.

Thanks for the recommendations guys.

So yes I did look into the trunk latch mechanism. it Is continuity between wires 2 and 6 on the trunk latch mechanism (page 22-364 on service manual). But I checked the wires on both and even tested the resistance on both with a voltmeter when both latches were healthy.

From the looks of it, my original latch is working properly but for some reason my trunk indicator light is still on.

Do you guys know I there is a fuse in the fuse box that might be faulty?

Thanks again for the help

how was the adjustment of the device? worn end or any funkiness in testing resistance? again- I am at guessing but...

Thanks for the help,

Yeah, when testing the resistance on both trunk switches. it starts off high be then fades off. so lets say it starts at 2 ohms, then it goes down to zero after a few seconds. I'm not sure what that means
