transmission replacement date.

Have been hearing a rumor about that trannys replaced after 05/ March is better and doesn't break again. Now I am checking out one acura that had trouble in the past and trannies replaced. Is there a mark somewhere telling it is newly redesigned tranny that will not break or the older one that will break again?

BTW, the one I am looking at as 02 TL S, Blue, has an extended warranty.
Vehicle history is 1 year as lease vehicle, 1 rear end collision, and rest is 2nd owner. 80kmiles
Negotiated price 12.5k. Is that a deal?

iono that colliision should put that price down a little imho... i think you should let your mechanic check it out before you negotiate any prices.. he might find something that you missed... and if u type in the vin number on that website that some 1 will be giving u some time here in this thread.. u will be able to tell when u got the tranny..

soccer- please stop telling people to register a vin to check it- that really screws with the system
What you do is CALL 1-800-382-2238 x5 with the VIN number in hand- tell them you are LOOKING at a car and ask for a history check and outstanding warranty issues. They will know if a trans was replaced and when. The post 2-05 trans are better but not perfect- what mechanical device is?
Easy to see if was ever replaced- look at the bolts that go from trans to engine- if head is painted blue- thats a dealer replacement- and acura care 800 will know when it was done.

the bolts that go from the trans to the engine are not painted blue with a reman trans, the bolts that hold the transmission together are..

and i can tell you that the rumor is not true.

OK- so I knew there were blue painted bolts involved- just said the wrong place on the trans,- its still the easy way to see if its a replacement unit at all!!!
THEN calling acura 800 will reveal ALL the past warranty repairs and when each was done!

Tech, i would whole-heartedly disagree with your statement. it *is* true that the post February 2005 transmissions are better, but it is NOT true that they won't break. i just had my tranny replaced at 106,000 miles about two months ago. the installed tranny was my second and was put in around October of 2004 at around 65k miles if i recall, not long after i bought the car.

the new transmissions have a much better reliability factor, which is plain to see by the postings on this board. very few are of the new transmissions failing. personally i would go for it if you like the car. the transmission is warrantied to 100k miles, so don't even worry about it. even at 106k they still goodwilled my tranny.

the court extended it a while back - now we get 7 years plus 9 months or 109k, which can be argued is 114.5 indicated miles due to court decision saying odometers read 5% fast

i don't believe the odometer thing applies to all tl's. i was told by the dealership (a reputable one) that it did not apply to my car.

I'm new to this site and I need a little help. I purchased a '03 3.2 TL with 57k miles on it in August of this year. After having this car for 4 months I started to experience transmission problems yesterday. The engine malfunction light came on and it slipping. I took it to a local repair shop here in Atlanta the specifically works on Acuras. I had a diagnostic done on it and it came back with 3 different codes. P0740-Torque converter P0730- Incorrect gear ratio and P0780-Shift Malfunction and was told I needed a new transmission and it was gonna be $1800. WOW!! I then found out from a friend that there was a recall on this particular model. I called the 800 number for Acura client services and was informed that the recall ended in July of this yr. and that I was pretty much out of luck. I called back and spoke to two other people and the last one told me that it had been repaired but he doesn't have the info on when it was done. I called the dealer that I bought the car from and he told me that Acura has to repair it again. I asked this guy, "Did you know about the recall?" his response was, "Knowing about it isn't the point, Acura has to repair it anyway. There's a 100k mile warranty on them." I really don't know what to believe or do at this point. I just don't understand how the transmission is giving me problems after having it for four months. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forums and sorry to hear you are having problems.

I deleted the other two identical posts you made in older threads since this will be more likely to get you some answers.

Thanks for all,
Checked the replacement date with the Acura dealership at which the car is serviced. It has been replaced in 2006, hopefully better tranny. They said the warranty doesn't start with the year number, it start with the date the car leaves the lot. So if you have bought e.g. 03 acura on 02/May then warranty clock starts ticking on 02/May.

checked the carfax, which is where i discovered the accident, it is not wreck as 911 says, looks like a minor, if major carfax says something like 'serious accident airbag was deployed', and owner says 10 mph accident, but you know it is hard to trust both owner and carfax.

Dcboy it is funny that your warranty ended this soon, 2003 acuras should end their warranty around 2009 earliest. Take to the dealership and ask.

DCboy and others calling Acura 1 800 382 2238 x5
Most of the time you are talking to a minimum wage person who doesnt hang out on acurazine and know about the place they work. They just answer the phone and give bad info!

Go in person and meet the SERVICE MANAGER of your local dealer.
Acura covers cars after the VIN cutoff number- after miles limits after...
all you have to do is be nice and ask the right person

Many used cars have problems - thats why thet were sold! And many TL owners are not aware of the freebie trans and sell the car after visiting aamco like you did
The warranty period is 7 years plus 9 months from acura record of first date in service/sold
and the mileage limit is 109k miles.
While the odometer error may not occur in all years- its easy to get coverage with the knowledge of the prob- the trans wern't fixed at the cutoff date,- why would anything- its all about court cases and dates.
