Quick question about these 2nd Gen tl. Would tyranny from these cars interchange with one another. As in if I had 02 type s with bad Trans can I swap a regular 02 tl Trans on it out vice versa. Or 02 Trans on 00,01?

Sorry for noob questions. Only ask cause on my audi cars you can't due to Trans code

 

There's more knowledgeable people on here who can probably provide a better answer than myself but from what I understand you shouldn't waste your time swapping in another 02 TL trans since it will most likely have the same problems as the one you swapped out.

Search for "AV6".. it's a transmission from an 06 Accord that swaps in fairly easily (minor modifications) and doesn't have the problems the 02 Trans does.

 

I was just curious as I have both cars at disposal and plan on driving or fixing it up. It'll be a project and learning curve on Acura platform for me. If it does bolt and work I'm tempted.

So basically I have 02 tl good tranny and tl types bad tranny. Wondering it it'll work.

 

Yes they will swap but the Type S doesn't have the power steering pump on the back side of it. You will have to make a block off plate. You can not leave the pump as it will dry out then burn up and drop into the case. (bad)
You are better off finding a 06 or 07 "AV6" transmission. You get a better fourth gear and a transmission that will not burn up.

 

Thanks for info. Any write ups or more info on the block off plate? But I'll try to find a 05 V6 trans and see what they go for a long with process of swap

 

used accord trans of correct vintage run `at junkyard` 500-750 dollars
labor about the same for shop- 500-750 to do the full install
or a weekends labor for you and buddy with a big trans jack- unit weighs 450 pounds!

use the new dw-1 Honda atf ONLY

block off plates? use search - make your own

 

see the current thread near this one on list- rebuild 03 trans, by outlaw speeder- excellent diy , give you an idea if you want to go that route on one of the units you have- freshen it up and will go a long time!
