Transmission Problems 2000 TL
Transmission Problems 2000 TL
I recently purchased a 2000 Acura TL this is my second 2G Tl. The first was killed by a drunk driver. My current TL has 110k on it and has developed a problem. The Transmission will miss a gear completely (Usually 3-4) but I have witnessed in other shifts as well. When the car go to shift instead of reaching the next gear it will shift into neutral. It seems to happen less frequent if I drive the car in sport shift. I bought the car in December and called the dealership about the warranty (at the time the car had 105k) and they said the oil jet had been put on this car and that there was nothing else they would do for it. So i decided to start searching the forums and have discovered a few possible scenarios and was wondering if you guys could help me choose best possible for my situation.
1) I have not had the chance to get the car serviced yet because I have been away at school. I could take it into a transmission shop and have them service it.
2) Have the current transmission rebuilt
3) Find a different 2g Transmission and have that installed.
4) (The most radical of the changes) Have a 07 Honda Accord 5spd automatic transmission installed in the TL.
-Thank you any insight or advice is greatly appreciated

Transmissions are not cheap.
Call around (minimum 5 places) and find the best price and warranty.
Or try another acura dealership and tell them that your right at warranty expiring and be real nice to the manager and see if they will do the warranty repair or at least 50% of it.

That transmission warranty was greatly extended, but you are outside the number of years, and I'll tell you right now, forget it. They payed a fortune replacing those and they are done with it. 8 years/120,000 was the extension. Maybe even 130,000 miles. My car only had 85k on it and they said no. Corporate made a joke out of me. They told me the Acura dealer needed to contact the district manager and district manager told me the dealer needed to contact him. They kept this up until I was too tired to deal. The guy at the Acura dealer where I bought it laughed in my face!!!
Rebuilding the tranny will cost you $3500. Acura will charge you $5500. Loved this car, now I HATE IT. I won't go on about the breakdown nightmare it's been.
