Transmission problem!
Hi
My car is 2000 acura TL 88000mile.
When I drive my car, sometimes the car makes big vibration at velocity 20mph~30mph.
So, I went the dealer shop for this issue.
They said that my car should replace the torque converter.
Also, they offered the price $1780+tax.
Here is my question. Is there any remaining warranty about transmission? The transmission was issued, so the warranty is extended.
Therefore, I checked my status at acura.com

`The transmission was issued, so the warranty is extended.`
What is that supposed to mean??
--you had the standard `recall` to install external oil jet kit
and the `trans extended waranty` VIN group- `open` on that only means part of the vin group
That warranty is 7 years plus 9 months or 109kmiles from first date in service- date sold new
You are past time limits and they go by whichever occurs first- time or miles
Dealer said they were only repacing the torque convertor?
or they had spoken to acura corp and gotten `Goodwill` for you on
`complete trans` 'with new torque convertor' replacement for that low price--which would be a good deal
retail on full trans replacement is over 4 grand
if the TQ is bad its because the clutch disc material is coming off and clogging the oil screens and tq with their crud...trans death in progress
pretty odd to have just a tq problem- but you never know~
How does the fluid look and smell?
ever had it changed ,,the trans fluid?, no, it was not part of the recall to change your fluid
we need more info

Doubt the dealer would just replace the TC. It's probably for a new tranny.
If you've got an '00 with 88k miles and they offered $1780, that's most-likely your post-Goodwill price. A new tranny from the dealer runs at least $4k. And you'll probably have a 3yr/36k warranty on it as well. Shop around for local transmission repair shops for quotes - you're gonna spend at least $1000. I'd see if I can get the dealer to go lower but if not, still jump on the $1780 price.
I went to an independent shop for my rebuild and only spent a couple hundred less than that (but the tranny case was re-used).

thats it!- go get exact information from the SERVICE MANAGER
that person is in charge- trust no one else~
TQ only- say thank you, but I have to take a hike
entire trans from acura rebuilding WITH the updated case is well worth 1700 at your cars age and miles
Say thank you- may I have a loaner Sir? (whack)
Thats what, 4-5 monthly payments on a new car? to make your baby right ?-
or as I say- getting half a new car!
seafoam, plugs if needed and tire pressure adjust- its a new car!!
the 3/36 warranty is available on any goodwill- customer partial pay trans for $300- often included in the quote
well worth it to have... even for peace of mind

Sounds like the converter clutch stuck on. They could change just the converter if this just happen. But most often the converter clutch material would contaiminate through out the whole tranny, filter, solenoids etc... To replace just the converter, any transmission shop could do it for less than $1,000. If you are going to replace just the converter accordingly to the dealer. You might want to have the tranny flush really good to get all the converter material out. And also take the solenoids out to clean them. Good luck

Man- take the advice of piggy - he actually rebuilds these trans and knows what he is talking about
if the TQ is failing- its probably from crud off the clutches and will eventually destroy the trans..
can you drive to a few trans shops for another opinion and price on rebuilding yours fully?
$2500-2800 would be examples of common price
some much lower if you do it before everything is bad
