transmission failure
My transmission failed over the summe, but I wasnt that worried about fixing it immeadietly because I wasnt taking my car to college. My grandmother has now offered to get me a new transmission but I have to put it in. Whaat should I do? I have a 99 tl. I am only posting this as opposed to reading the other transmission failure posts because they all speak of 00-03 models as the 99 was not affected in the recall as far as i can tell.
thanks in advance for the help and advice

Its the same thing, its just that the 4 Speed 1999 TL has a tranny that weighs a lot less than the 5 speed. Meaning, you can DIY.
If that doesnt answer your question please re-word the question.

Bring it to a trans shop and let them rebuild it. It is after all the 4 speed. Dont waste your time with a higher mileage 4 speed.

I would call acura 1-800-382-2238 x5,
give them the car VIN number and ask if part of the RECALL to install oil jet for trans, and if that was ever done????
If not ever done, its possible you may be able to get a freebie trans under warranty or a good price on acura rebuilt unit- same price as a shop would charge to rebuild yours
If the recall was never done- its possible there is heat damage that meets the specs for free replacement
make that call!!!

as for DIY install- if you have a friend, tools, basic skills, you can do it- about 4 hours at a shop--so figure double that for home,, on the ground

Try to look for a junkyard with a tranny already there, I had 2 freind with a 2g tl's both found trannies at a junkyard for $400, they also paid the junkyard to have it installed for an extra $400.

thats a good idea mobb, BUT you have to figure any 99 in the junkyard is likely to have high miles,,, and need a rebuild soon too
Parts with rubber seals inside dont like to sit unused for long periods of time, then be called back into service
Sure it may hold together now, maybe 100 or 1000 miles then ptttttt
Caveat Emptor= Buyer BEWARE! Be Aware~
