Transmission failure

my 2002 tl type s trans failed today it won't go past second gear I had no previous indications that it would fail the reverse shifted in the cold when when i first got it but now it won't go past 2nd gear I have to use the the auto stick but once it goes past 25mph i can't drive anymore unless i shut the car off and wait for a few minutes the D5 light was blinking my engine light came on my vsa light came on but then went off but my engine light stays on now is my trans done or could it be the computer also previously when I driving on the highway the car would kind of get stuck for a single second and then take off when pressing the gas all the way down I don't have a factory warranty I have a GW Guardian 4yr 50k anybody else have this warranty??? or ever dealt with this warranty company

Its not the ECU, its your trans. Why dont you have factory warranty? The trans has a 7 year 109k warranty.

might be over the mileage or its a rebuilt title. call your aftermarket warranty and see what they will say, they should cover it if your still within the limits.

raj- its dealer first! then the warranty company if needed, must be diagnosed in either case before action can occur~

Shizzy- the car has a regular title right- not salvage or rebuilt title?
I think it would be difficult to get aftermarket warranty if it was

Acura had to extend the trans warranty for us `by court order`
are you under 109,000 miles?
get to the dealer- if it wont drive- call the dealer and ask for a tow truck, its paid for in the trans warranty- no charge to you

When it gets to the dealer- they will say 100$ diagnosis fee- just sign the paper
When warranty prob is found, they document it and create a special warranty work order
You do not pay for the diagnosis either
And the waiting room coffee is free- a ride home is free- and when prob found- a loaner car is free (age minimums aplly)

Just call the dealer- Say -my trans is funny and wont shift!!
They inspect- a week later, maybe less, your car comes home

your description is the same as my signature lol

But he claims to have the guardian 4 year 50k warranty. If it were that it would have to be 50k additional from the mileage on the car when he bought it to be effective. If not the factory trans warranty is longer

http://owners.acura.com/registration...erstepone.aspx
register then look in the recall section
as long as you are under 109k miles or 7 years plus 9 months since sold new- which you are under
Proceed directly to the dealership

7 years plus 9 months from date first sold- the day it left the dealer lot as a new car.
So you are going to be covered- just get it to the shop and stop worrying
With those symptoms its a a no brainer replacement under warranty
Your only problem may be loaner car- if your states rental car age is 25, so is the loaner car. Other states are 21, but not many

I'm sure it's still under the Trans rwarranty at the dealer being it's an 02, so bring it to Acura and have it replaced for free.

you can buy an a cura warranty at the dealer but you already have enough coverage
Dont worry about the website- we know the newest info 7+9 is official AND some cars also get an odometer error credit - warranty extension on trans to 114.5 for incorrect readings

Go look at the plate on the door where it says production 07-02 that would be july 02 as example of when it was made, and it takes about 2-3 months from then to get it sold in a persons hands
call acura and ask them for the date- also register with them as the owner
1-800-382-2238 x5

what did the acura.com say on RECALL: trans jet oil kit

Instead of hoping, why not CALL the dealer in the morning and ask what is the minimum age for loaner cars- its a legal issue about insurance- they have to follow the law

Drop the car off monday after 10 am- after the monday morning shop meeting where no work gets done on cars
When they have a chance- a tech will run it around the driveway or block- pull codes- tell shop foreman whats wrong- and then tech goes to work on the next car

Higher ups do paperwork and call in the order for a trans from the warehouse
It gets put on the acura truck and arrives in about 2-3 days

The techs try to remove the trans, check the motor mounts and get approval for replacement if needed (your extra warranty will cover those) and have the car ready to install the new trans as soon as it arrives. The whole job takes about 4 hours to remove and install

the motor mounts should be part of the aftermarket warranty you purchased,
not the acura trans warranty extension
Read it!!~

Tell the service writer/manager that you have the extra warranty too- leave policy with car, so if the car needs anything else thats covered- they will be sure to look for it!
