Transmission & Brakes, 99 TL

Hiya,

I bought my 99 TL about 6 months ago.. i still have about 1200 miles worth of warranty and i want to make sure a few things.

1) Transmission, i have the automatic
The tranny seems to shift slow, sometimes lingers in 3rd on the freeway (not nice.. 4000rpm at 80mph) and forcing me to toss it into manual and pushing it to 4th by hand. Kickdown is REALLY slow (more than a second after flooring it), same goes for response to the throttle, seems to take about a second before the engine picks up. Is this normal for a 99 TL?

2) Brakes
Lately, the brakes have been getting real slow, i have to push deep to get any 'heavy' breaking out of it. On top of this all this cost me a new bumper as i hit someone from behind due to the car not braking like it used to (ABS didn't kick in either, was doing about 40 when the guy in front of me broke REAL hard (mechanic testing a customers breaks), i was about three car lengths behind him, i broke all the way down to the metal just about, no ABS, no powerbrake, only locked up the wheels after i was right (2 feet) behind him. When i break and during breaking go over a bump, i feel the breaks 'shake', sort of a shaking feeling in the pedal, this doesn't seem entirely normal either (not to mention not being too happy about having to cough up $862 for a new bumper, thank god i only hit the Suburban's trailer hook and busted just the bumper and license plate, the Suburban had, of course, not a scratch. Any idea's/info?

it sound like your another victim of another slipped tranny. i got a 99 blk tl and its stating to slip between 1st and 2nd. for me im taking the car back to where i gotit from to get them to fix it. about ur brakes i noticed i have to push deep also. are your brake pads good? i just changed mine yesterday and i still have to push alil but i gotta check my fluid. i guess take it back to the dealership. the tl had alot of recall due to tranny problems but the 99's dont have the extended 100k warrenty only 2000 n up. hope u get it fixed

The tranny is probably dying, and the brakes may have air in them, the pads may be low

Thanks guys, after reading the horror stories on here, i was thinking it could be dying on me. I have only 48000 miles on it so i still have warrenty, time to hit the dealer

On the breaks, i guess i'll have them check that as well.

'99 TL - 96K miles on it (LOTS of highway)

I get 38K-39K off the front brakes; about 57-60K off the rears. I notice significant brake fade as the front pads wear down, not so much on the back. BIG difference with new(er) pads on it.
