Transmission Blown, 6MT Swap have the front end of CL 6-mt. Now just a couple of ?s
Alright guys I just have a quick question. My 03 TL-S transmission is slipping on 2nd and 5th gear so I'm getting rid of it and doing a 6MT swap. I just recently bought the WHOLE FRONT END of a CL-S without the engine and i was wondering if i needed any other parts other then what is already on the front end itself? I won't be doing the work myself as my close friend's family owns a body shop. He's done transmission swaps before so no worries on that part.

"yeah, crank sensor, ecu, harness, check the sticky youll find all u need to know."
I've read through the sticky posted by fsttyms1 when he did his TL-P 6-MT conversion. I checked the list already, but I just wanted to make sure because I am getting the harnesses and the ecu and everything else. I pretty much have almost everything the front end has minus the engine. Is the crankshaft sensor located on the engine? The wrecking yard I'm buying the parts from still has most of the car including the engine, so if it's on there, I can probably convince him to sell me the crankshaft sensor too Thanks in advance. Put a deposit on the parts today, and they should have everything stripped and ready for me by this coming Thursday or Friday. It's nice to know I bought all the parts needed for the conversion for only 1600. Labor for me comes out to only 1k. so 2600 for a full 6mt swap. As soon as it's done (probably end of next week), i'll have pictures up for yo

this is a first 03TL-S 6SPD.. the others were 99-01... but if you are doing the swap? do you need to have the WHOLE FRONT END of the CL-S? i believe you only need the engine and the other parts..

ahahah. yep, this will be the first 03 TL-S 6MT. I didn't buy the whole front end. i basically bought everything thats needed for the swap. Thats the cluster, dash, console, linkage, boot, transmission, etc etc. I just wanted to make sure that out of all of those parts, is there anything else i need to find or order that might not be on the CL that is required on my car. I'd imagine not because from what i'm reading, its basically the same. I just wanted to make sure so i can reduce any extra downtime that might occur because we have to wait/look for that missing part.

I guess my question comes down to whether the CL-S 6MT comes with it or not, because most likely i can purchase it from where I'm getting the parts from if it's not already included.

No the trans doesnt come with that sensor. Its part of the motor. You have to remove the crank pulley to get to it. You will also need the front camshaft pulley and the 2 TDC sensors behind it. (i doubt any salvage yard will let you cannibalize a good working motor

Thanks alot I'll see what I can do about grabbing those parts. the sensors and pulley are pretty cheap, so the sensor is what i'm aiming to get.
So do I need to get all these parts listed? they're all coming directly from the engine, so i wanted to make sure
Front cam pulley 14260-PGE-A11
Front plate assembly (behind cam pulley) 11860-PGE-A10
Timing belt pulley(lower) 13621-PGE-A11
Crank shaft sensor 37500-PGE-A11 (this little shit costs $500.00)
Subharness for CKP 37501-PGE-A10
TDC Sensors (Qty 2) 37840-PGE-A11
TDC SUB HARNESS 37841-PGE-A10

okay, problem solved. I got the whole car towed back to the body shop, so now i'm going to rip out the CL-S engine and put it in my car, and give back the dismantler my old TL-S engine. The new engine only has 31k miles on it, whereas mine already has 68k

sweet deal dude, I want to do similar to my car this summer or sometime past that, at 2,600 its better than getting a new A/T! Good luck with the swap, post plenty of pix.

thanks alot guys. unfortunately for me, I start school again next week, and my friend has cars still in his shop that he wont be able to finish until friday. So I wont be seeing much of the action cuz its a good 100 mile drive home. car will be going under construction for about a week, and when it's done and rewaxed, i'll take some pictures my original plan was to find a buyer for my transmission and and use the money from that to fund the 6mt, but maybe its a good thing i didn't sell it because someone else would be stuck with my POS tranny.

Just a little bit. the CL was stripped last week and so was my TL. One problem came up though. The transmission on the car i bought had a crack, so the guy refunded me my money for the transmission, but i was about to buy everything else excluding the tranny for about 600 bucks. found another transmission about 400 miles away and put an order in for it last thursday, now pending delivery. I dropped by on saturday and my car was already put together. only thing missing now is that transmission. I'll update you guys again with pictures next week when i come home to hopefully pick up my car.

UPDATE!: Sorry this thread's been MIA for a while, but there was a few parts my mechanic couldn't source until saturday. The car is almost done and probably by tuesday, the swap would be complete! All i have to do then is wait for him to pop out my fender and repaint it from the time someone in my apartment complex ran their car into my fender and dented it in. Then he's gotta repaint the fender, bumper and door and re detail my car. I should hopefully have full car pics for you guys by this friday!

It looks like there's gonna be some delays so my car most likely won't be finished this week he has to swap out all the harnesses in the car from the CL, which i thought was weird. any of you TL-S Swappers had to do that?

I dont think any thing other than the engine to dash harnesses right and left, and motor harnesses need to be swapped. Maybe the lower dash harness. Be for warned that you will have to do some custom wiring to get windows and locks and speakers to work

UPDATE: The swap is done! The swap is done!
Yay!!! I just called the shop today. My car is officially done! He's waiting on the manual starter and as soon as that comes in, and he turns the engine, I'll be good! The car had its keys reprogrammed to work with its ECU today so that part is done. He said i would be able to pick up the car on monday after he fixes my dent and repaints the door fender and front bumper for me. You guys won't see pictures till next friday though because I have school 130 miles away from the shop.
