trans fluid washers

I bought some ATF tonight and was just about to go into the garage and do a flush. What I didn't realize was that there were also replaceable crush washers on the drain and fill plugs, like the oil drain plug.

Does anyone know if these are the same size as the oil plug washers (I have a bag of those laying around), I don't want to start and find out I can't replace the washers.

Thanks,
Dave

nope,
The tranny washers are a different size. They are pretty cheap at the dealer. Have fun.

Ouch... I guess I'll pick them up tommorow. Probably take a 1/2 day so I can do it during the daylight hours and not make a mess of the garage floor. Somehow no matter how careful I am, I always get oil all over the place. Don't see why my luck will be any different with the trans fluid.

I'm in a bit of a rush to get it done since I'm taking a long weekend trip to rhode island to visit a friend. So if I get the fluid changed before I leave on friday morning I'll have a little peace of mind.

I just have this image in my head of the brown dirty brown fluid circulating around tearing up internal parts. Yep it's brown at 24k, see my previous post. Brought to dealer, he recomended change at 30k, but I think I'll give it a shot tommorow. I've got 13qts of ATFZ1 (3X4 + one for good measure or in case my clumsy ass knocks over a bottle).

Just get the drain washers. When I went to the parts counter, they didn't even have the filler washer. They went back to the techs and they said that they just reuse - no pressure and fluid is below plug. They only need them if they drop and lose.

Ok, just finished the trans flush. Wasn't too bad. 4X drain -> refill -> drive. The fluid that came out of there the first couple of flushes was pretty brown. And there was a good amount of metallic sludge on the magnet. It was pretty fine stuff, so I'm not too worried about it, probably just from the initial breakin.

The only problem I had was getting the fill plug nut off. I tried and tried with a ratchet with an extention, but could not get it loose. No good place to brace yourself on for leverage either. Finally had to break down and drag out the compressor and impact gun. Of course, I have a compressor, impact gun, but no impact sockets go figure. So I had to use a 1/2 to 3/8 adapter, a 3/8 extention, to a 3/8 17mm socket, none of these are rated for impact use, so I'm pretty lucky that nothing shattered. Just to be on the safe side I set the pressure regulator down to 70 psi instead of the 90 that the gun usually runs at.

The bolt took a couple of good shots from the gun, and then finally spun loose. From there things went very smoothly.

12 qts of ATF and 2 crush washers later, I have nice pink trans fluid again. Hopefully it will stay that way now.

The oil crush washers and tranny washers are not the same. With an Acura deaelr not far from me, the diff between prices between the 2 dealers is not worth the price in gas for me.

I saved my recept and my old washers, so my next trip to Home Depot, i'll see if I can find an exact replacement. I go there every now and then anyway.

My Acura dealer threw in 4 tranny washers for free when I bought a case of Honda ATF (12 quarts)

I haven't done the FULL flush routine, but I do drain and refill the tranny fluid with every oil change. It's always been somewhat brown right from the first 3K miles. The metallic sludge on the magnet seems to be less and less each time though... Not sure if I'm preventing any eminant failures or not, but it does give me peace of minda also...
