Tranny solution!
Tranny solution!
So i was looking thru a old issue of sport compact and saw a VW with a Caddy NorthStar V8 in it, and started thinking WHAT IF!!!!!!!!!!?????????????????? (300HP 275ft/lb)
if he could do that to a VW i could do it to a Acura!!!
what do you think????
or should i try a 6 Speed conversion???????????????

i think the 6 speed conversion might be a lil easier. well at least you wont have to figure out how to mount that V8 in there. plus your weight is gonna be soooo much more in the front. prob won't handle too nice. but then again i cant tell if you are joking or not.

I think the best way would be to find a totalled CL-S6 and rip everything out, and replace in the TL.
Oh, yeah, I've wanted to ask you something.
It's off-topic, sorry, but here's the basics. My buddy works at a Honda dealership and there's a J35A4 off an Odyssey that he's getting. It was replaced under warranty, and the dealership gave it to him instead of throwing it out.
He's offered it to me for 250 bucks. The entire motor. I think this will be the perfect opportunity to do the 3.5L upgrade. The heads are warped on the engine, hence the warranty replacement, I guess. But all I need is the block, anyway.
What do you think?

Id grab it! the block and crank are what you really want! the type-s heads combined with custom pistons is what makes it a killer!!! (from what ive read and figured out)

As for the RWD conversion, yeah, it will take a lot. But I was just saying that the engine definitely has the capability for the RWD duty. Now modifying the TL chassis to accommodate the RWD configuration will be a bitch.

teh engine requires a whole different cooling system (bummer), bellhouding (not readily available) different IM (factory one would be facing firewall) and many other lil things.
fwd would be much easier

Either way, a Northstar swap into a TL would be sweet.
if you put that engine in a tl..... you would be my hero. The other thing i had questions on is people have taken parts out of the mdx or type s and put them on the tl-p for performance grades but usually people are doing like 6 different parts at once which i dont have the money for. Are there any individual pieces from any other engine that can be put in the tl-p engine and still show a performance improvement?

How much does the engine weigh ? .....more like, what's the difference in weight between the two engines. Not to rain on your parade, but if it's significant, wouldn't it unbalance the car ?
if they did a 6speed swap into an av6 i dont see why it wouldnt fit into the TL just gotta do the cosmetics (gauges, shirter, no more vsa). shit that would be lovely. tired of this crapomatic! mine's back in the shop for the 4th time. my supposed "Upgraded tranny"
why the hell didn't acura put a 6spd on the tl's. Such a pathetic shame! How much are you guys thinkin' installation of a 6spd would cost total and what exactly is needed to do so. A list would be awesome.

I just found out that the engine is a J35A8, the new Odysseey engine. Has 4,000 miles on it. My friend told me J35A4 by mistake. Woohoo! Even better. I'm excited.

By the end of this week, he'll have the entire crate taken over to another friend's place (lives in an apartment, no place to store it). Then we're gonna take a look around the engine bay, do some research, and have at it. If everything goes according to plan and smoothly, I just might have a 3.5L block upgrade in a few weeks.
