i think the 6 speed conversion might be a lil easier. well at least you wont have to figure out how to mount that V8 in there. plus your weight is gonna be soooo much more in the front. prob won't handle too nice. but then again i cant tell if you are joking or not.

I must say, I've never used a shop manual to work on my car before. But my brother has an Acura shop manual for his UA6, and they are pretty good.

I think the best way would be to find a totalled CL-S6 and rip everything out, and replace in the TL.

Oh, yeah, I've wanted to ask you something.

It's off-topic, sorry, but here's the basics. My buddy works at a Honda dealership and there's a J35A4 off an Odyssey that he's getting. It was replaced under warranty, and the dealership gave it to him instead of throwing it out.

He's offered it to me for 250 bucks. The entire motor. I think this will be the perfect opportunity to do the 3.5L upgrade. The heads are warped on the engine, hence the warranty replacement, I guess. But all I need is the block, anyway.

What do you think?

Id grab it! the block and crank are what you really want! the type-s heads combined with custom pistons is what makes it a killer!!! (from what ive read and figured out)

Would you like to assist? I will pay for your hotel, food, alcohol , etc.

I have to admit that this will be beyond my current skill level.

The best part is that the Northstar engine only required slight modifications for the RWD duty in the new STS. *hint, hint*

Sorry, I left my decoder at home... What the hell did you say?

As for the RWD conversion, yeah, it will take a lot. But I was just saying that the engine definitely has the capability for the RWD duty. Now modifying the TL chassis to accommodate the RWD configuration will be a bitch.

inset grab and stroke gotee and go hummmmmmmm

teh engine requires a whole different cooling system (bummer), bellhouding (not readily available) different IM (factory one would be facing firewall) and many other lil things.

fwd would be much easier

Okay, scratch that idea, then.

Either way, a Northstar swap into a TL would be sweet.

if you put that engine in a tl..... you would be my hero. The other thing i had questions on is people have taken parts out of the mdx or type s and put them on the tl-p for performance grades but usually people are doing like 6 different parts at once which i dont have the money for. Are there any individual pieces from any other engine that can be put in the tl-p engine and still show a performance improvement?

you should be able to mount teh mdx manifold, type s manifold (need a rpm activated switch to control 2nd stage of intakes) while no one has done it yet(that i know of, NSXNEXT will probably be the first) there should be HP improvements

Kris, go for the 6S swap. You'd be the envy of all 2GTL owners.

How much does the engine weigh ? .....more like, what's the difference in weight between the two engines. Not to rain on your parade, but if it's significant, wouldn't it unbalance the car ?

If you go with the 6 speed swap and it goes well I would do the same. If you decide to do so keep everyone posted cause I'm truelly interested in doing it myself also.

why the hell didn't acura put a 6spd on the tl's. Such a pathetic shame! How much are you guys thinkin' installation of a 6spd would cost total and what exactly is needed to do so. A list would be awesome.

I just found out that the engine is a J35A8, the new Odysseey engine. Has 4,000 miles on it. My friend told me J35A4 by mistake. Woohoo! Even better. I'm excited.

Looks like they are working on making an auto & manual. I wonder if it includes the 4 speed for the 99 TL's.

well that engine is only 60lbs more than a VW VR6 engine (not sure how much that is, so it cant weigh much more than ours. the tranny in our cars is hands down the heaviest tranny ive ever lifted.(fwd) it probably weighs close to 2 chevy 350 trannies

You'll have to pry it off my kungfu grip.

By the end of this week, he'll have the entire crate taken over to another friend's place (lives in an apartment, no place to store it). Then we're gonna take a look around the engine bay, do some research, and have at it. If everything goes according to plan and smoothly, I just might have a 3.5L block upgrade in a few weeks.
