Tranny for sale?
Ive used the search for all you Nazi's out there....and i havent posted in here since 08, so bear with me.
My Tranny finally just let go, it overheated and smoked itself. So im in the market for a used one. Ive search all local yards, sellers, etc etc....cant find anything for less than a $1000. Can anyone help?
My baby has 186k, and this is the first major letdown she has given me.
BTW ...its a 01 TL-P

https://acurazine.com/forums/black-market-8/
its still winter crashing season so something else may come up!
Problem with used unit thats been sitting is the rubber seals go bad and you dont know the actual condition of the trans

yea i hear you on that....i found a couple on ebay for 1000, that have 6 month warranty....but im sketched out by ebay for some reason...LOL Ill check the black market area and put a post. Im trying to weigh out my options here....
I have a 01 TLP with 186k on it....she runs great and has never given me any issues until now. im trying figure out if its worth me doing this, or just buying something else. Im not made of money by any means, and im not really trying to pick up a car payment.
I was also thinking that when i did the tranny recall at 80k, did they throw a warranty on that new tranny? cause, if there was...my trans shouldnt have blown out on a 100k, right? thanks again for your help, ive been on here for years and used your advice/knowledge many times.....

did you get the oil jet kit installed or they replaced the whole trans due to heat damage?
the trans has a 12/12 and whatever the car has left of the 109 = if covered vin

2500 to rebuild yours is a fairly small car payment for keeping the TL going

and a fellow AZ'iner actually emailed me about 20 minutes after i posted this last night and said he had one thats been sitting in his garage since he did the 6 speed conversion 4 months ago...he says it was rebuilt 20k ago, but with one snag...he punched a hole in the side of the casing when he was prying somthing off with a pry bar, and also said it was a small hole that could be welded very easily....you think this is a sensible option? I mean, shit, even if i had the guts swapped out with mine...that would be possible right?

and now that i think of it .... my tranny guy said to me yesterday that it shit the bed due to overheating....hmmm im wondering if the Acura dealer just did the old jets....and there was still an issue....FML i loved this car.....

the recall simply installed an external feed line to 2nd gear shaft thru the normal filler hole
looking under hood- you have either a funky thing attached to top center of trans- the oil jet kit
OR
if a warranty replaced trans- the heads of bolts on trans will be painted BLUE
Units replaced after early 2005 have a new case design with jet kit moved internal- but still carry the blue bolt heads so acura techs can easily tell if its original

did it actually break a shaft,,
or overheating meaning the clutch packs came apart and clogged the torque convertor outlet screens for the fluid= no shift,
low oil flow makes for hot oil that doesnt lubricate
if you got 186kmiles out of an original or even a replacement got you 100-you did really well overall
Did you change the fluid on a regular basis?

the recall installed oil jet kit has nothing at all to do with the clutch pack wearout
we all suffer from
the jet kit prevents 2nd gear shaft from snapping in half at freeway speed due to no lubrication!
result is sudden stoppage of cars forward motion~
with the kit, it gets direct cooling spray = problem solved

if the used unit is from a well known ziner with a reputation to protect,
and some Gorilla glue (my new favorite tool) or jb weld will fix the hole,,thats a viable option
Would have to be close enough to you for self pickup- to avoid extreme shipping charges

yea...def dont have a funky oil line going into filler hole....the filler hole has ATF printed on top...and there is blue bolts holding tranny on to the engine...so it must of been replaced yea?
No it didnt break a shaft...must of overheated due to packs breaking up and clogging the outlet screen....but im not even sure 100%...my tranny guy is a trusted family friend/ grease monkey genius ... and said hes seen this before in these cars...and is very familar with rebuiding these things....i didnt get too deep into conversation with him, as i was pretty pissed when i found out and threw a temper tantrum like a 7 year old :/
and also no...i didnt change the fluid much....maybe once or twice since since the swap out...i know...bad bad bad...but i always changed the oil and maintained the rest of the car pretty thoroughly....so i supposed this was long over due and my fault-a-comin :/
and i wish that trans. was close enough for pick up...its in FL...and im in Boston...but i can have it shipped for about 150-200 ... so yea 250$ for tranny...shipping 150 ...JB weld 10$ ..... i say a transmission for under 500 is a good deal....but then again im weary on the "sitting in my garage for 4 months covered up" , as you said...rubber parts dont like to be dry/exposed/or hanging out in your garage for a long time....IMO anyway
thank you for your valued info man....means alot

and BTW...you really think that JB Weld would hold up on a tranny? i.e. heat, road grime, salt, etc etc .... i know the stuff is pretty rugged because i patched the case on my CR125 when i was a kid, and it worked pretty well...but a trans. is whole other beast...LOL

you have a post 2005 case on a replacement warranty trans
those are better overall and worth rebuilding inside with better parts
Your guy will know what to get
or
4 months inside covered beats a year outside in the rain!
depending on where the damage is- the piece is intact and present? the repair method may vary
jb holds up to most anything, and gorilla glue has met every test I tried, and called tech support to get more ideas

good luck with your trans man. i just picked up my tl and have no idea what the condition of the current trans is so im saving up for a replacement as we speak just in case

make sure the oil jet kit has been done, or the trans replaced since 2005 when new case design was used on replacment units
ck for blue painted bolt heads on trans = warranty unit
if the fluid looks bad change 3 qts of its 7 qt total

unit weighs 450 pounds!!!
ask a trans shop about swapping its parts into your case
Show them the pics and ask for advice

My only concern is that the piece may be in the trans or fragments of it? If cleaned properly and scuffed up im sure JB would work.

yea i found a used one for 1500 with 65k on it...even comes with a 6 month warrenty...my only concern now is...what if the oil jet kit isnt installed? the recall wont apply to that, correct?

ask the seller if its there, or if there are blue painted bolt heads anywhere on the trans,,they paint the main bolts that go thru the unit- not just the easy to see ones on top as seen in recently posted pics,,so you could have a better guess
since it was a recall and free- its pretty hard to find one that was never taken care of
,,except a few ziners~
I have read you can buy the kit from dealer,,not too much $
this is a good reason to register with acura care 1800 382 2238x5 they send out the recall notices to last known owner
you might need the airbag inflator recall done!!

if its a choice between a 65kmiles used unit thats an original (right where they tend to fail 60-85)
OR
fixing the broken case on a low miles acura rebuilt unit from a trusted ziner--and they have the piece and it fits, just needs a way to attach/glue---correct?
I would go ziner,,borrow a truck if its within 500 miles for less than shipping cost
or tow your car there and have that ziner help install- they already know how!!

yea...the thing is the 'ziner is all the way down in FL...im up here in Boston....the 65k one is from ebay, just so happens the seller is from MA, and a parts dealer(or something or other) but on the other side of MA....so it'll be hard to go see if it has blue bolts or the oil jet kit installed....i suppose i could take a drive out there....and also the 'ziner kid doesnt know where the piece of metal that broke off is....so im kinda stuck at teh moment...
i am mechanicly inclined....but dont have/work at a shop...so i can only do what my garage and tools allow me to do....but a jet kit that consisted of a few taps and routing of hoses can be done prior to install of the tranny correct? in that case....my situation is leaning toward the 65k trans. IDK....im still stuck on what to do...

well if he lost the piece its worth 2000 less,,its broken
ask auto yard to take pics of the trans--they do this as needed for posting parts on ebay etc-
or a real phone call to another human~
should have details of the car it came from, type accident,,rear or front crash makes a differance in energy spread thru the trans on impact,, and other info not found in online ads,
how long sitting, how do they store them etc
dodgy answers give you a hint as what to expect
