tranny repair question

Hi Guys,

My tranny died about 6 months ago, at 54k miles on 2000TL (the car has now close to 59k miles). The dealer fixed the problem by rebuilding the existing tranny. I just took his word for it at that time. Is this their policy to rebuild the tranny or should they have installed a new one? I m concerned because I hear the recent trannies have better casings? Please advise.

Thanks in advance.

Usually, they replace it with a new unit. Did they explain any kind of warranty to you? If they did "rebuild" the tranny you should call and ask as to why they didn't replace it with a new unit.

check your invoice or call acura at 1-800-382-2238 x5
thats the warranty center- they know if they replaced your trans

Normally the dealer does not do rebuilds- not worth the time
They fill out a form and a replacement unit ~rebuilt~ is sent

Since you had a post 2005 replacement you have the latest design

Well I asked them why there were going to rebuild it, and they said they dont replace it with new trannies. I guess it would be wise to call the main acura office to find out for sure. I will let you know how this turns up. thanks

What he likely meant was- we get a rebuilt unit from the place that has a contract with Acura to do all of them. We take yours out and install a rebuilt replacement
Cant call it NEW because they use a mix of used- checked OK for use, and new parts together to make a complete unit.

Sometimes they fail too- good thing the unit itself has a 12/10k mile warranty PLUS you are still covered by the 109/7 year special coverage
