TRANNY question

I have just bought an 02 TL-S with 59k running on its original transmission. Even after having read SEVERAL* posts concerning tranny failures, i still decided to get a certified TL-S. I love the car, and aside from its one major problem, its a great vehicle.
However, its mechanical flaw is a big concern for all who own a 2G TL. Warranty or not, it is still a hassle to have to keep replacing the transmission, esp. for those without a warranty.
After reading a post, i came across a stat that said the acura had approx. 2% of the 2G cars with a flawed transmission. But after reading many posts from the depressing tranny failure club, it seems that a lot more ppl are having problems. 2% seems a bit small when reading all the posts about the failing trannies. Lets say for example it was a bit more than 2%, perhaps 5-8%, where are all the ppl who dont have tranny problems. It seems like almost everyone, has one time or another had to replace their transmission. Now my question is (as stupid as it may sound), where have all the good trannies gone?

P.S. I know this is not a very original thread, but I just want to hear some good stories from people who are still running on OEM transmissions, whether their car is stock or modded. Its just for my peace of mind and for those who are still running on their original transmissions.

i bought my car used, and supposedly, it was fixed for something before I bought it. Now it's at 53k but I must say that these trannies are crap. I just don't like how the tranny feels. Just my opinion, but I'm pretty sure there's others who love the tranny. Just like other TL owners, I love the car, but the tranny is the downfall. It's all good. If it happens, it happens.

YF- You see many trans failures here because this is a gathering place for car people who share their knowledge.

Ask the average TL owner in a parking lot and they have no clue, and many have never had a problem. Some will say Oh yeah I got that recall- That was for an oil jet kit install- NOT same as trans warranty extension

myTaLiza- You should take your car to the dealer with a list of trans symptoms. They will check it and either document they did not find problem- yet- OR they may decide you need a FREE new trans on the spot, and that includes loaner car!

All members should register their car at www.acura.com ownership experience link.
You make a free account with your VIN number and it knows all about your car.
Also store your radio security code there.

Read their list of known approved symptoms and call for an appoinment.

These are GREAT cars and after you get the new trans- it really runs like a brand new car

Let us know your results

I'm on the original tranny with oil jet installed at 17xxx miles. If it breaks it better happen before the end of 08 or I'm screwed (car was originally bought Dec 01). So far the tranny feels fine though. Maybe I'll buy another powertrain warranty from GE or somewhere when Acuracare and the tranny extension runs out. I really think Acura ought to extend the trans warranty out to 150k/10yrs though.

I'm sure it's more than 2% and even 10%. I asked the the service advisor that's a buddy a guy I work with and he told me he gets about 20 cars a month on average requiring transmission replacements.

For starters that # you read is for teh Less than 2% failure rate of the 2nd gear shaft problem, which the oil jet kit was designed for. NOT the problem we all have here. Also Forums tend to show problems(not just the tranny) as worse than they are

Why? They already went above and beyond what they had to do and what most would do and offered a 7/100k warranty. There are car companies with problems like this that have done nothing for the customers.

Again I say it-

So many other cars are JUNK at the time we only need a FREE transmission
and then we motor along happy until it needs normal parts replacement at 100k

Could be one of those BIC lighter type cars- 5000 starts and you throw it away

Or worse, look at the gen 3 threads, those cars are rattle traps with brake wear out issues

Eh, I
suppose your right, most car companies, especially domestic brands most likely wouldn't do jack on the warranty end. They do still have a business to run and trannies aren't cheap.
