tranny jolts on cold startup

when ever i start my car cold, sometimes i will get a quick jolt when i put my tranny in gear. Is this a sign that my tranny is going out or is there a fix for this, or is it just something to not be worried about?

mine does that too, but only when i put it in reverse in the cold mornings... other than that, it shifts fine.

I don't know if I'm thinking about the same jolt, but try and put your parking brake on before you put your car into gear, as well as putting it into gear before taking of the parking brake. Reduces the sharp jolt caused by the parking pawl.

Umm, the jolt from parking pawl only happens when you're on an incline... in this case the parking brake will help only if you put it on before you let off the brake when you're parking, again only really usefully if you park on a hill or something.

But yeah like everyone else said its supposed to shift a little hard when its cold, says so in the manual.

Funny, my new tranny (99TL) doesn't do it anymore. My car did it from day one on the original tranny.

well the same thing happened on my old mercedes. There was an adjustment screw on the tranny or linkage or something that the mechanic tightened and the jolt went away. I wonder if it would be the same type of thing or not. But yeah, its only on cold morning for me too and also my shifter seems more sticky or "gelled" up when i first put it in gear.
