Tranny gone...need advice on "recommended" service

Hello Everyone,

1999 Acura TL
Miles : 43,300 ( only driven on the weekends)

Long story short, driving on highway Tuesday, TCS and CEL come on . Took it to regular mechanic to check code. Comes up with P0700 and P0740, he tells me to take it directly to dealership. Took it this morning to Acura of Manhattan; get a call before I get into my office, Tranny needs to be replaced (under warranty, ). Dealership mechanics also needs (recommends) to:

Replace Front and Side Engine Mounts: $530 parts/labor
Break Fluid and Power Steering Fluid Flush: $250 parts/labor

Are the prices correct for the "recommended" replacement/service?

Thank you for your responses

New engine mounts are often needed when the transmission is replaced. So that's not unusual.

But those cost estimates seems way too high.

I'd pass on the fluid flushes and politely ask they to check their estimate on the engine mounts. There are other forum members here that could give you a better idea of what the engine mounts should cost.

Or check out the Tranny Failure thread for many other reports on the engine mount costs:

https://acurazine.com/forums/wash-wax-23/leather-conditioner-help-106818/

Since the transmission is already covered, do you have another local dealer you can take it too? (Perhaps you're subsidizing the dealer's cost of doing business in Manhattan.)

See Page 48 of the Tranny Failure thread where 01tl4tl wrote the following about the front engine mount:

Front motor mount should be: dealer part cost 120 plus 30 dollars labor because the trans is already out, and that makes it a 3/10ths of an hour job instead of 2 hours they are trying to charge you. Sometimes the commission bonus based service writer(seller) ~accidentally~ forgets to tell the computer- "with trans removed"- so it defaults to full price

And, correcting the typo in my message above:

I'd pass on the fluid flushes and politely ask them to check their estimate on the engine mounts.

My numbers are based on an 01 TL , cant say for the 99, but theoretically.....

And that ~accidental entering~ of "replace mounts"- instead of "replace mounts WITH trans removed" happens all the time and = $$ vs $$$$$$$
Its just humans entering numbers and codes and who knows

No discount on the side mount with trans removed, wrong side of the car-
but its fast job and 30-40$ part

A polite call to the SERVICE MANAGER, is in order, thank him/her for taking care of you (probably the last 99 still under warranty limit of 7 years+7 months)
AND could they look into this ~computer error~ for you please
This is often a good point in time to mention belonging to Acurazine.com

The PS "flush" you can do at home by taking off a line.
cost $10-20 parts 30-60 minutes labor
Brake fluid flush every year! $6-7 parts,
30 minutes labor first time- faster after that

My car sees some fun roads and I have been changing things in the brakes, fluid flushed 4 times this year- we have it down to a few minutes per wheel at track days~

Do you have Acura care? When I had to get my tranny replaced, they did the mounts for free, I thought they were somehow covered under the warranty but then I looked at the bill and it said acura care something I guess that warranty took care of it, I remember when looking at the price on the bill, thats how much they charged for the mounts, 500 something.. hope this helps.
