Tranny Fluid
Sup everyone
I'm new to the forums, my name is Tony
My brother drives a 01 TL with 141k
Not sure when was the last time the tranny fluid was change.
After reading through some of the threads about tranny fluid..I'm scared to change it now. Should I just do, drain 3 fill 3? I'm scared to do 3x3 and the tranny go bad on him since its high milege and dont know when was the last time it was change. I think it was change maybe 50k miles ago?
Can I use Honda ATF?
How do I drain it and fill it?
Thanks

welcome- do not do a 3x3
Do a simple 3 qt- its actually 3.2 or so and refill
Use only honda atf from honda dealer - get 4 qts
refill exactly

It's as easy or easier than changing the engine oil. Fill bolt may be very tight. Use tools that fit properly so you don't strip the fill or drain bolts.

Lol i dunno why people think that changing the Fluid will make the tranny go bad??? the stuff that became damaged its the 3rd gear clutch pack by extreme heat caused by a faulty design of it not allowing much ATF cooling it down fast, my point is changing the ATF for Pure brand new 100% Z1 will make it last longer i have done 3x3 since i bought the car, having my first tranny gone at 149000K
so only if your thinking changing of brand like i did (Amsoil). or not knowing when the last change was done (Like you). if you do a 3x3 you will now that any High Mileage or Excessed used ATF oil will come out. if you do a single change 1x3 you will only blend Used oil with new..... now whats the point of that?
And never never do a machine flush. always do a 3x3 if you whant 100% new oil in there driving about 5 miles per changing

123,000 miles on my 1999 TL. I change the Tranny fluid every 10,000 miles. Honda fluid only. It's very easy. 3 qts. come and and 3 qts. go in. The fluid cost about $22/24 bucks at the Honda Garage for 3 qt.s. I only replace the washer every 2/3 changes. When I change the fluid my tranny always shifts smoother.
AND=anyone that says you shouldn't change it is nuts! Would you not change your oil for tens of thousands of miles? NO. I'm trying to keep my tranny going since it's out of warranty and the money I spend on the changes is just cheap insurance. Some will say it will fail anyway but I'm trying to ward that situaion off as long as possible. The fill bolt on top= if it hasn't been removed will take a good tug to release it. I used a 20" breaker bar with proper extentions to get mine loose. I still hit my hand and cut myself when it broke loose so be careful. You can fill the tranny through the dipstick if you have a small hose that will fit into it if you can't get the filler bolt loose or don't want to. It's easy to do and you don't have to jack the car up to do it.
You will surely notice a difference in how your tranny shifts.
