Welcome to the club!
Hate to ruin your day, but get thee to the dealership immediately!
This is what my tranny was doing when I brought it in and the suggested treatment was a tranny transplant.
And I got my car back a mere 25 days later! What a country!

To all the people that transmissions have failed. A G35 owner tranmission went out with only 203 miles on the dash! But he got a check for all his problems! Whoa! If Infiniti can do this so can Acura. He is what he said:
"ok, to refresh, I'm the one who'se tranny locked in 4th gear with only 203 miles on it. while it was down for 11 days having the tranny replaced, i called NNA [Inifiniti] consumer affairs to state my displeasure. outcome: besides having the car back for ~500 miles now with no further problems, I also recieved a check for $682 as a good will gesture from Infiniti for my inconvenience. I have to say that did help me have more faith in the company to want to make things right! "

Any chance of adding the approx. failure mileage to your list of VINs? I've got 14k on my 02 TLS and I'm wondering if this means I'm out of the woods...

Extended Warranty for Tranny Protection
I'm seriously considering buying an extended warranty to protect me from a failed tranny (after the base warranty runs out, of course). I found a policy at WarrantybyNet.com and it covers the following tranny parts:
TRANSMISSION-transmission case, transfer case and torque converter case are covered only if damaged by the failure of an internal lubricated part. All parts contained within the case including the following internal lubricated parts are covered: oil pump, valve body, governor, vacuum modulator, internal linkage, bearings, gear sets, bands, main shaft, drum, sealing rings, dip stick and filler tube.
Any thoughts as to whether this warranty would cover the flaw in the TL-S tranny? I seem to recall someone saying the TLS tranny fails due to a clutch-related part, which may not be covered by the above...
Thoughts?

That is the EXACT problem that I am having too. On the 2 - 3 shift it revs up about 500 rpm before dropping down into 3rd. It has been doing this for about a month now so I am just waiting for the tranny to go. The harder I accelerate, the worse it is. When I am going up a hill, I dont even have to accelerate hard for it to happen. I wish I could "Pre-Order" my new tranny!! Oh well..Se la Vi

Hey guys, I have a '03 TL-S and even though it's been about 2500 miles in about 2 months, my tranny is having similar symptoms as your cars. But I felt it was sort of normal considering that our trannies have the sport shift modes and on top of that the programming on the shifts could cause the extra revs between shifts. I'm going to keep a close eye on my tranny though. Who knows it might be a soon-to-fail warning, just like your cars....
If you need me to back you guys up with the warranty debate, I'm for takes....

Moderators: I would suggest that perhaps we have Transmission Issues listed as a separate forum (like in the CL board) so that newbies have quick access to all of the threads discussing this point.
Thanks

After I took a printout of the forum posts to them from the Tl and Cl sights, and the SouthEast regional Acura Rep just laughed, I was glad to have them buy the car back...I have other things in my life to do then fight over issues with a $34k car that I paid my hard earned money for. If you do decide to launch a battle, I will be glad to share my story. Even though I've gotten rid of the car, I still think it's not right to treat people the way they do.
I have already responded to the American Honda survey about my experience with Acura corporate Customer service and gave them all of the gory details...plus an earlier thread asked all of us to fill out the online NHTSA complaint form, and I did that. The BBB here is already filled with unresolved complaints against American Honda.

My car started doing EXACTLY what you describe this weekend. I couldn't have described it better than you've put it. It hasn't "failed" so to speak .. but it's on its way. I have one that I picked up in March of '01 and now I have 13,900 on the ODO. The funny thing is that I was about to order headers, the intake, and a few other mods this summer since I ran into about $2500.00 recently. So much for that, now I'll make sure I keep this baby BONE stock so I don't ruin any chance of not getting warranty work done on it.
This the first and last Acura I'll ever drive.
(minus a new NSX in a few years .. hell, even w/ a shot tranny, that car will STILL look good in my garage).

I say 2 weeks max. That's about how long it took my tranny to blow after it started shifting with that funny delay.
Speaking of NSX looking good in the garage. I heard there is a guy in my town who has a Ferrari suspended on cables in his living room (reinforced ceiling). Actually he can lower it and drive it out through a strategically placed large door.

And here I thought I was unique!
I've been off this forum for the last several months. My tranny went out on me with the same problem described here. I didn't bother to check the forum at all until just now.
The tranny on my '02 TLS white w/ Navi went out at ~17,000 after 8 months of ownership. When I first brought it in with the 2nd to 3rd gear shifting problem, the dealer drained the tranny oil and said it was BLACK. The thought it needed to be replaced. When the problem only slightly subsided, I brought it right back and they replaced the tranny.
Acura was out of the part (surprise surprise), so I waited three weeks and got my car back. So far so good, no problems with the tranny since then with another 7,000 miles on it (up to 25,000 now.)
Yikes!
Scary stuff...

The sevice manager said the black stuff was clutch material, and that it had clogged the hydraulic valed in the A/B shift solenoid.
