Hey guys. I keep getting a CEL on my 99 tl. The code is P1738. No one a the parts store could tell me what the code meant. It just said refer to manual, which I don't have. I know it deals with the transmission but what exactly does it hint towards? TIA

I opened the link and it says its the 2nd clutch pressure switch which sounds about right.

You can get a pressure switch from Amazon for like 30 bucks and install it yourself. Its easy.

Just have to jack the car up a bit and take the driver wheel off. I replaced mine and it took maybe 20 minutes.

 

Sorry to say but thats the code of death, Heres some test you can do:
1:Check ATF level : On level surface engine warmed up and off. If ok next

2:Test 2nd Gear pressure switch : the switch sends a ground (-) to the ECU, if the ECU does not see the ground then it will set a code. What causes that? No or not enough oil pressure to 2nd gear, broken wire or damaged switch.

Does it shift into 2nd gear ? if so is it harsh or takes long to engage.

Things to try before replacing the transmission:

Replace 2nd gear switch.

Try a drain and fill with 3 quarts of Honda ATF DW1 3 times to replace the majority of the old fluid. (3x3)

 

It still runs and shifts fine but its throwing the codes. It may just be time for the switch replacement
