Trade TL for RL?

Since my tranny seems to hiccup and want to slip between 2nd and 3rd more often, I'm thinking about trading for an RL. The problem is, I'm about to pay off the little bit I owe on the TL with my tax refund, so that means no more car payment. I like this. I don't want to put $ into a car with a tranny that's eventually going to go. My car is an LGM 01 with spoiler and ground effects and only 73k miles. I found an 02 RL with 114k....so would it be dumb to trade my car + about $1000 to get the RL with more miles? Those RLs are built like a brick $***house, and I've always liked the wide bodied RLs.

id do it. honda motors keep on going. and seeing how ur trans is on its last leg. trade the tl for the rl or keep the tl and pay another 3-4k to replace the trans. think about the long run

Well it quit on me today. Violent slipping in all gears upshifting, downshifting, and reverse. I limped it to the dealer with my hazard lights on. I'm opening a case with Acura and I'm going to fight to get something. I'll start out nice but I'm sure I'll wind up being the biggest PITA customer. I'm not backing down. I'm going to push, and push harder until they want me out of there. If I can't get assistance and be out of pocket for no more than $2k, I am towing it to my brother's friend's tranny shop where I got an estimate of $2k.

His comes with a 1 yr/12k warranty. I can't dump the car or trade it in now....it's undriveable, so it has to be fixed whether I keep it or sell it.

Personally, I like the RLs body style. Not sure about the drivetrain, etc.

Well you shoulda done that before the tranny went. Now you will have to fix the tranny either way. Id say do a 6 speed swap and call it a day.

I'm not interested in doing a 6spd swap or any mods; that just devalues the car except for a select few AZ forum members who would want one like that.

It wasn't acting up bad until just the other day and when it went...it went fast. Occasionally it would hiccup and I knew it would need one but once it started slipping, it was a matter of a couple of days. By then, you couldn't hide it enough to trade it in w/o someone knowing.

I'm going to visit the RL board and see. I will wind up 2500 out of pocket w/ a crappy 1 yr warranty from a rebuild place---so ok, I can drive worry free for 1 year, then it's back to skating on thin ice.

Maybe I can fix it...sell it for 5500 or so, minus the 2500 for repairs...that gives me a louzy $3k. I can just go buy an 02 RL for around $8k, take a small loan out for the $5k difference, pay it off in year or 2, call it a day, and live worry free.

putting in a 6 speed wouldnt "devalue" the car.

if done right the car wont look or feel any different even to un-aware buyers...

it would actually make the car more reliable and increase the longevity of the car in most cases. even help gas mileage.
acurazine members are not the only people who drive 6 speeds... you could sell a 6spd 2nd gen in NO TIME.. IMO

u will feel a huge difference. my friend got done with his swap a few months back and said the should have done it years ago instead of doing those bolt ones. all he wants to do is drive and drive the hell out of it.

i felt the same way when i bought my cl-s6

i was referring to comfort wise... the overall car's structure will be the same.. just driven differently of course...

IMHO I think our generation of TL should have had a 6spd with the TL-S. It would have been a great move on Acura's part and sat well with the enthusiast drivers who prefer a standard. Considering they had the 6spd in the CL I think it was simple laziness on their part not to include one in our generation, only to throw one in the next generation.
