Toyota Camry gave me a hard time the other day
This Camry with 3 people inside put up a good fight the other day. We raced from 80mph and the Camry was pretty strong. I still beat him, but I was expecting to annihilate him which did not happen.

Don't the CAmryz have a V6!! don't know how much HP but you prob. weren't in 3rd gear that's all!!! It all depends on the timing and what gear everyone's in!!! but at 80MPH 3rd gear should B perfect around 5,000 - 5,500 RPM. Say U where in 4th and he had a stick and went to 3rd (big difference)!!!!!!!!!!

I have a feeling you must be in 4th gear. Our TL has a really sluggish 4th gear. But 3rd would really help you pop away though. You have throughly embarrassed all of us! Just kidding. You'll know what to do next time. And remember, don't ever underestimate any opponents.

I also raced a v6 camry about two weeks ago and toasted him pretty good. Like everyone says, anything between 60 and 90 you want to make sure to shift into 3rd gear. Anything under 4000 RPM and the car is not near the sweet spot. 4th and 5th gear are way to tall under 100 MPH.

It doesn't matter if you win by and inch or a mile, a win is a win. That guy probably ended up scratching his head and thinking to himself "what the hell was I thinking?"
Yes 3rd gear is the way to go.

I understand what you mean. When my TL was stock, I thought I was gonna blow away an older ES300 but he was right behind me. Considering 225 HP vs. 210 HP (not sure 100%) that isn't much of a difference and gearing on the ES was probably better thus explaining his ability to stay on my arse.

I thought I clearly wrote that I had won. I was just surprised that the Camry did not back off easily.
I was wating for him at 80mph. He came from far behind and had enough time to develop some good speed. When he caught up to me, I shifted to 3rd and gunned it. I was expecting to surprise him and blow his doors off, instead he gained a little on me, like 1/2 car length, only then did I have enough power to pull away from him.
Basically I am upset that I did not blow his mind like I wanted to.
But maybe he was already cruising at 100mph, who knows.

that's where the DOHC engines pays off...
they are stronger in high rpm compare with ordinary SOHC engine...
but with VTEC...our SOHC engines are competitable with them at high spd...

USE TO DRIVe Camry
i got much love for Camrys. My first car was a carmy, that was before I got this car. Camry are no joke. Then are decently fast. Well off the line at least. They are light and they launch really easily. I wouldnt be surprised if The camry V6 of course take the TLS off the line and more. I raced my friends 300zx with my carmy and took im off the line but he got me. Once I got my TLS I couldn't get the launch that I had. I raced my friend again and I have to catch the pull on him. They are very very LIGHT and close to 200Hp i thin around 196. With a few TRD mods. It can HANG. The camry are too high though but light and have a very good engine. DOnt diss the camry. THATS MY FIRST LOVE.

Ive raced 2 v 6 camrys and dusted them with no problem in my TLP. I took one from a dead stop till about 100 at a red light on a parkway and i ate another one while doing 50, i downshifted into 2nd and punched it. He couldnt even keep up. I had rows of cars on him.

I had no problems running far away from that Camry earlier from a traffic light and a few times at lower speeds. But when he caught me cruising at 80mph while he was zooming in at a much higher speed, I had a hard time winning.

If you notice a car catching you on the freeway he already has a
5-10 mph head start on you. If you follow drag racing, you know
how much of a difference trap speed makes. And if you just
pressed the gas, then you were probably in 4th gear. So there's
nothing wrong with your car... just your timing.

my mother has a 99 LE V6, i've pushed the car hard n to me it feels slow, it lacks torque but it feels quick but not strong, i cant ever burn my tires with that car, i don't know but its pretty weak to me, i guess it could be alright...maybe to a stock civic...
