totalled???!!!
totalled???!!!
yeah so i might have totalled my 1999 TL Friday night after losing control in rain and driving over an island in the road.. loooots of damage underneath, including a demolished tranny, broken axle, broken frame, dented left fender, dented door, it just doesn't look pretty right now!!! does anyone know how well the insurance company will compensate me for my dead ride?.. i've got 95K on the car and it's in real nice shape, books for about 13,000 or 14,000 i think retail.. anyone have an idea?
not to bum you out but dont count on insurance giving you the retail value on a car that was totalled. You should do a kbb or edmunds and get what they consider the wholesale value of the car. That would be more on-line with what I believe you would get. Let us know though!

........ by the way, sorry to hear about the accident. I'm guessing your're alright if you are worried about the insurance money..but it's good to hear you are ok..even if the TL didn't make it. But think about the bright side, the TL did what it was supposed to do (ater the loosing control issue) it saved your life.. I have seen a few bad accidents here in Toronto recently, one hit a median and flipped on to the roof...so thankfully yours wasn't that bad.

The way it works with insurance is that they should offer fair market price. If it's lower than what you would expect, ask your insurance to buy same model, year, mileage and condition car as the car that you just totaled. In most cases insurance company will either offer you what you are asking for, or they will meet you somewhere in the middle. By the way, that payment from insurance must also include tax that you would pay if you buy identical car.
Good luck!
Good luck!
Make Them Pay Retail ! They Have To, They Tried To Pay Me Wholesale When I Totalled My 02 R1 And I Told Them I Would Contact My Lawyer Later That Day They Called Me Back And Ended Up Paying Me Retail +salestax+almost All The Money I Had In Upgrades (if Ya Have The Receits) . And When I Totaled My 98 E430sport They Paid Retail And Gave Me The Money (3300) I Had Spent A Month Earlier On A New Paint Job(ONCE AGAIN I HAD THE RECEIT) . I Guess It Depends On What Insurance Company Ive Always Had Goodluck And I Hope The Same For You Keep Us Posted .

Treat them nicely, dont make them do anything otherwise the'll make you bend over while they service your account!! Even though you do qualify for some sort of money/replacement, you will never get more than 10-12k worth of car or money...
Good luck, keep us posted..do you have any pictures? are you + ppl your car OK?

yeah thanks for the concern guys, but i'm physically fine, no bumps, bruises, scratches, nothing.. i do have a bruised ego though now that i'm driving a rental dodge neon
.. my uncle owns a mechanic shop and his best friends own a body shop, and i guess they have an "in" with the insurance people so hopefully they'll give me the best possible value.. i only owe like 9700 on the bank loan, so at least i can take some extra cash and use it as a down payment for a new one.. but yeah, thank the Lord that these cars are built like tanks because i felt pretty safe even though i nailed that median.. another car (like the Neon) probably would've went tumbling!

i totalled my 2000 TL, I paid 16,000 for it. It had about 58,000 miles when it was wrecked. I dont think insurance looks at the mileage i think they just look at the year. Anyway i got 18,300 from insurance. That was sweet but my rates go up for the next 3 years.
well, so they call it NOT TOTALLED.. i dunno if this is a good thing or a bad thing!.. i could've taken the money and upgraded, based on the things that i've heard from people.. but ah well.. they're going to fix it and at least i get the car that i have already made an ass-groove in.. but yeah, my insurance payments still go up for like 6 years.. CRAP!.. AH WELL

The frame/chasis can not be fixed, or not worth being fixed.

I agree.
I had two accidents with my old taurus that bent the frame a bit. You can pull the frame back to specs and pretty damn close too. Just find a GOOD shop that specializes in that, or you'll be wearing through tires or driving like a funky chicken and no alignment will help you! lol...
