I totaled my type S last week and just found out they were gonna give me 31k$ for my 02 tl type S/Navi. I am stunned that they are going to give me that much. The ajustor said in Ohio it is illegal to go by KBB or Nada. The Ajustortold me they give ADP Average delaer price. I am assuming they are giving me this much sonce the car is made down the street and Acuras are everywhere in Columbus.

I have my eye on a used 98 gs 300. Dont flame me guys. I need something a little cheaper since my insurance is gonna go up since the accident was my fault. I would of bought a 95 legend 2 door type 2 but insurance was 200 more a year.

What they are giving you is actual cash value. This is the value on a retail basis you would normally have to pay to get a similar TL-S similar to yours, taking into consideration depreciation for mileage and wear and tear which should be minimal on a 2002 Acura which retain their value quite well. ADP is the standard in Canada as well and the value has nothing to do with the fact the TL is made in Ohio.

BTW, ajuster is spelled Adjuster. Sorry for being so anal, but thats what I do for a living.

Sorry chief didnt mean to spell it wrong. So would you have given me 31k for my tls 19k miles navi oem kit? I almost Sh@t when he told me 31k. I was only expecting 27 or 28 tops. I know in canada thier is no Navi but would you of had a close figure w/o navi?

If you are going to buy a used GS, might as well go for the GS 400.:wow: It shouldn't be that much more than a used gs300.

Must be something about Honda's / Acura's. My brother totalled his '91 Accord LX with 120k miles. State Farm coughed up 5 large for it. He didn't expect to get half that.

Well I dont want a gs400 since its a v8 and I am not gonna be able to afford the insurance. I already checked

I am not leaving the family. I love acura but want to give Lexus a try. I have had 3 Honda products the last 4 years. I am gonna try something else. The lexus is gonna be about 20k used and im putting down 5k so my car payment will be around 315 for 4 years. Thats 200 less than my previous 02 tls.

I am an adjuster, not an appraiser, the latter of which is responsible for valuating your car and the former of which investigates the claim. I cannot say how much you would get for your car, just how its value is determined.

However, the damages plus the likeliehood of the other party suing would not negate making a claim. Thats what insurance is for.

Attn Blexv6 I need your help. The insurance company now wants to fix my car. They said they can only come up with 15k worth of damage to my car. They have not yet torn the car down to look. I have looked at the car and do not want it back for it is not going to drive the same. I really need some help to getting this totaled. I am sure you have run into people wanting to have their car totaled if the damage is bad enough. If you can give me some tips to get it totaled I would appreciate it. I can think of all of these things that need to be replaced

anway, i don't understand why they know for sure the engine and tranny aren't damaged.... from the pics (i have seen them) the frame is badly damaged and the engine is probably touched...

either case, look around for the MOST expensive and the best body shop, and asked that the car to be estimated by them and repaired by them if necessary (yes you have the right to choose the body shop). usually in those cases the car will be totalled.

things that i "think" might be replaced / repaired:
- side airbag?
- new seats?
- try to see if the axle is bent (most likely)
- rear taillight?
- the 2 right doors?

Yes the 2 right doors need to be replaced aswell . The tails are fine. I am pretty sure the axel is bent. The side airbag did not go off for some reason.

Rominl how is the lexus maintence compared to Acura? I am curious because I am looking to buy a 98 gs300 in the same spectra blue as yours.

you mean the maintenance needed to be done on lexus or their customer service? for maintenance, it's about the same. lexus has much better quality than acura but then services are more expensive. i don't go to lexus for most of the service except tranny flush.

customer service, in general it's much better than acura, and i mean it. a lot better. they treat you better. however you still need to search around for a good dealer where they will really understand what you wanna do besides being phony at you.

you getting spectra blue too? man that would be an awesome choice! though i think it's hard to find that color? btw, if you are considering getting the used gs, you should consider the gs400 instead of gs300. used gs4 is usually around 2k to 4k more expensive but you get LOTS more with that. but it's true, the gs4 will have a much higher insurance premium.... i have 2002 tls and 1998 gs4 and the gs4 insurance rate is way higher than the tls....

Well mine is not paid for I owe 25,600. In the state of Ohio it is illegal to go by kbb or nada for a price value. They go by adp average dealer price. The insurance will pay whoever hold the lein on the vehicle. If say you have a new Ford tauras and you owe 15k and the adp is 10 you are responsible for the difference unless you buy Gap insurance. I am no insurance person but I think what I have told you is correct.

If your frame is bent, they can repair it as they are mine, they just cut away everything that is bent and place in new from Honda. Unfortunately I wound up in a very similar situtation (just you were at fault whereas I was not, so I'm all that much more frustrated). You're right that the car won't be the same, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

BTW, if you're thinking about using gap insurance, you'd better check. Honda's gap has a limit, and it's determined on a case by case basis. Worse yet, unless the insurance SPECIFICALLY totals the car and the check comes to Honda from them on that basis the gap won't kick in. This means you can't take the 15k from the insurance and add in the salvage sale price and give that to Honda and then utilize gap. I tried it, and that's what they ultimately told me, maybe it would work better for you if you don't lease through Honda, if you do have Honda though I would expect the same results. Good luck though, at 15k getting it totalled will probably be impossible, you've got probably 8k to 10k more of value in your than I did, and I couldn't get it at $16k in damages. Again, good luck.

I guess were lucky acura makes good cars. I had a tree fall on mine and smash the roof in while driving. 28,900 in damage. Lucky to be alive.
