Question Torque Convertor & SS......

Just wondering, does Torque Convertor locks up/unlock in SS Mode?? When I am in SS Mode, and going uphill, sometimes, I experience something similar to convertor unlocking itself(the rpm will go up couple hundred RPM even though I kept constant throttle)...

Is it normal??

That is normal. Most Hondas/Acuras auto-transmissions comes with "Grade Logic Control System". I think when you're lugging the engine up a grade, the tranny will sense this and down shift into a lower gear...this will also happen when you're going down a grade and when u apply enuf brake, the car will downshift into the next gear...I think...

Torque converter lock-up has nothing to do with Grade Logic. To answer your question, Andy, yes, torque converter lock-up still happens in SS mode. That "half-gear" feeling that you get is the TQ lockup happening.

Hey bio, you're not a newbie!

A torque converter replaces the clutch in an automatic transmission. It allows slippage between the engine driveshaft and the automatic transmission. It's basically a drum made of two halves: one half is attached to the driveshaft, the other is attached to the transmission. The drum is filled with oil. Each half of the drum has "fan blades" on the inside, so the engine half swishes the oil around and the transmission half "catches" the swishing oil and begins to turn in the same direction.

The TQ lockup mechanism uses a hydraulic or electrical actuator to physically lock the two halves of the drum together, thus eliminating the mechanical losses that occur in moving the oil, improving your mileage.

Actually the reply to Bio was tongue and cheek. You see Bio is no newbie. He may be young, but on this board he's an old fart.

He wasn't calling anyone a stupid newbie, and newbies here are not considered stupid. There is no disrespect intended. I understand what you are saying, but it is not as you think it is. Cool?
