Top Quality Polishing Towels

This is simply an FYI for those that want to use high quality american made 100% cotton towels to polish(with Zaino) their Type S. I just found this link........I use hand towels instead of full size bath towels (easier to manage)

The Royal Velvets are OK. The Charismas are amazing.

Check THIS link for them. Much more plush and soft than the Royal Velvets.

From how some people on this forum talk, they would rather the towels not be American made.
Thanks for the info, though. I'm always looking for new ideas.

Not so fast, I have some fairly expensive microfiber towels and I dont like them as much as the terry cotton for some reason. They dont seem to shine as well but are definitely softer....

Austin, I'd love to see how many swirls and surface scratches you have from those so-called 100% cotton towels. Sorry but $3 for a 100% cotton towel? A 100% cotton towel can still have a polyester backing which can scratch the he!! out of your car.

Read THIS post. These guys are fanatic about their cars.

BTW...Microfiber all the way. Nothing compares to it.

Actually I have none...and I have an NBP car so I would notice. They're not so called 100%...they're 100% A polyester backing would be noted on the tag that lists the contents...ha I think what some people don't realize is that more money does not always equal more quality...

I bought two types of microfiber towels - the Viper and Miracle (Magic or whatever its called now). Both shine great but both leave so much lint that I've gone back to cotton terry for final buff.

??? I also have the Viper and the Miracle Towel, as well as a bulk pack from Costco - Don't have any problems leaving lint...I use them to pick up the crap that the cotton towels leave behind. The Vipers worked great for my Zaino process, I love the Miracle Towel for drying.

Sorry man, after I read my post I realized that may have been construed as a slam against your towels. Sorry.

One of the best tests for a microfiber or any towel is this:

Take an old, repeat old CD. Flip it to the laser side, part without the label. With the same pressure you would wipe you car with, rub across the CD back and forth. Look at the CD in the light. Any scratches?

If so, time to get a better towel.

BTW NicSand microfiber towels suck.

Quik test to see if a towel really is 100% cotton:

Snip a small section of the towel off, and burn it..YES I said burn it.
If it burns and lets off BLACK smoke, then it's not 100% cotton.
Smoke should be a lighter color(more of a light gray/brown color) if its cotton.

How valid of a test can that be? The makeup of a CD is in now way similar to that of a cars paint job(even ours). A CD's surface is so much more delicate than that of our car. Haven't tried it but I would bet that i can scratch a CD with a microfiber towel.

I have the Viper towel and it does not scratch a CD. The NicSand towels I had did. I believe the Miracle towel also does not scratch.

If microfiber towel A readily scratches a cd and microfiber towel B scratches only after repeated hard rubbing and microfiber towel C does not scratch the cd even after hard rubbing, which towel do I want to use on my car?

It really doesn't matter if the cd is harder or softer than my paint or clear coat. Makes no difference. The cd test allows me to at least see that there is a difference in towel A, B and C.

I guess my point is I'd be interested in knowing before I place any towel on my car, which will cause the least amount of scratching.

properautocare is a good site, I purchased a bulk set at Costco for cleaning non painted surfaces, I leave my painted surfaces to the Miracle towel for drying and the vipers for buffing.

I think The Mighty Thor, using a microfiber towel (and Mjolner of course), can kick the purple pants off The Incredible Hulk's a$$. Care to debate that in another forum Double R?

So, the new and improved, kinder and gentler RR has showed up - and he brought jokes. I think I like the crusty old geezer better.
