I bought Comptech Exhaust last month and i thought that it would be much louder so I decided to take out my resonators and have a bigger downpipe of 2 1/2'. When i started the engine, OMG, its really really loud now. Maybe i didnt want it to make it THAT much louder so i might take it again to at least put one of the resonators back. If anyone took out resonators, how do you like it? I dont know if i should just leave it or put at least one of them back on.

Oh yes, you will get a ticket especially from the CHP. You might want to put the resonators back on.

I have a Magnaflow axle back exhaust and I had the resonator closest to the mufflers removed. The resonator that looks like a mini muffler. All I could say was wow! The sound is MUCH throatier. My exhaust sounded just like the comptech's b4 resonator removal. Now they sound much deeper, and not ricy at all. Plus, it might've picked up some top end horses since that uneeded restriction was removed.

After a whole day of driving my car without my resonators, i have decided to keep them. I have began to love the sound of it. It gives it a really nice sporty deep thorthy bass noise to it. BTW, i drove passed like 5 TLs and all i can say that they look pretty amazed~!!! =) And as far as for tickets, i dont really care. I mean, I'm 20 and i believe im not gonna get a chance to do this to my later cars. =)

I had a custom exhaust built with Bullet mufflers and it barely made a differnce. So I had them take out the "pre muffler/resonator". Sounded great at higher RPMs but way too loud under 2750. I took it back and had them put a smaller "pre muffler/resonator" back in. This took a lot of the bite out but it is still a little too loud for me.
I was thinking that if I install some sound barrier (perhaps DynaMat) in the trunk that the lower RPM's won't be too bad. Anyone who says that the TLS is well soundproofed, they are wrong. It is that "pre muffler" doing most of the work.
Anyone have any ideas?
BTW - I had a woman at the dealership who owns a 2001 TL compliment me on the "throaty" sound.
