Too much for 45k service?

The dealer wants to charge me $434.00 for this service. I turned them down and told them i just want an oil change.

The service includes:
Replace Spark Plugs
Replace Wiper Refills
Inspect EGR Valve
Replace Fuel Filter
Replace Fuel Filter Crush Washer
Road Test Vehicle
Clean Engine
Lubricate Locks and Hinges
Replace Transmission Fluid
Replace Transmission plug crusher washer
Inspect Drive Belt
Oil Change
Check and Refill fluid levels
Check for Tire Wear and Damage
Inspect Brake Pad
Inspect every aspect of vehicle including lights, power steering, front and rear brakes, tie rods and boots, drive axle boots, steering gear box, suspension, cooling system and hoses, exhaust, fuel pipes, hoses, brake lines and hoses.

Now...after that long ass list, which is the most important...keep in mind I bought this car at 36,000 miles and they installed the tranny oil jet then and I believe they changed the fluid as well. The brakes are resurfaced about 6,000 miles ago. And why do they recommend that the spark plugs be changed at at 15k and 45k...does our car rip through them or something? So have I made the right decision on just doing an oil change or should I ask them to inspect anything? The car runs perfect except for a bubble in the tire which makes the steering wheel slightly vibrate sometimes, the vibration does not happen when I brake tho. Sorry for the very long post.

I agree

I have 44,500 miles on my 02 TLS and will take it in the next 2 weeks.

I agree with you.

What is the spark plug changing? I thought they need to be changed every 100,000 miles.

What about the fuel filter change? I thought that all there was is a screen at the fuel pump located in the gas tank. I didn't think it needed servicing.

And the transmission fluid- I thought the change interval was 60,000 miles.

When I get a large bill on my car, I always ask for a breakdown by services and parts. It gives me a better idea if I am being ripped or not.

I just got my 03' TL-S serviced last Friday (9/16/05) for the 45k mile service. I got 2 quotes from two different dearlerships. Acura of Fresno wanted $120 and Acura of Modesto wanted $80. Why did you get quoted so much money?

BTW, coolant and brake fluid are due for changing at 45,000 miles per my 2001 manual. Are the 2003 schedules different?

$434 is all fluff and profit for the dealer. I get my car serviced at a local Honda dealership and I decide when the service gets done (with the help of the owner's manual). I agree that the plugs are good for 100K miles, and there is even a link on this site regarding how good the plugs looked when removed at 100K miles. You can also check your own belts and hoses- no need to pay the dealer for something you can do yourself. That's why they're called 'stealerships'

Rotating the tires?

Regular tire rotation can promote uniform wear. Tire rotation is recommended based on the following conditions:

  • One or more tires develop a specific wear pattern.
  • One pair of tires shows signs of rapid treadwear compared to the other pair.
  • The tire or vehicle manufacturer specifies that rotation is necessary to maintain the warranty.
However, if your tires are wearing evenly, tire rotation may not be necessary. Again it's recommended you do this...

did all of it myself man...some ngk plugs cost me like 40 bucks wholesale from my friend...all I needed to do is pay Acura for an oil change because I didn't have the right socket. ended up costing me 70 bucks, definately do it yourself...if you look at it all this "checking" they do is all bull to fill up lines, they basically change your oil, plugs, replace some fluids, and check stuff....just do it yourself.

My tires are pieces of shit anyway..one has a small bubble on the sidewall which makes the wheel vibrate a little and they wear to fast...btw they are sumitomo htr tires. Im gonna get a new set before winter so I can ditch these shitty ones.

I agree these are all bullshits from the dealers, I brought mine in for an oil change, and they reminded me the service is "due" , and I guess the only concern I have is by not following their "recommemded" services, is it going to void our warranty?

Is this^ all I really need to get for my 45k Service? I actually ran late on it and am at 50K miles, so what should I throw in from the 52k Service as well?

summary: What do I REALLY need to get done, and save myself money from the stealership?

Took my car in for 100k mile service. (FYI...they labeled it as a 90k service)

Just got my car back today 2002 TLS with 99.8k miles. Wow...talk about a lesson learned.

PARTS............
Brake Fluid $3.33
Cabin Filters $32.18
24mm washer $4.59
Windshield washer solvent $5.27
Engine coolant $16.79
Spark Plugs (PZFR6E-1) $114.48
Bulb 14v 60ma $13.75

Total Parts $190.39

CUSTOM………..
2 Transmission Flushes $100
Crank Pulley Install $100

LABOR (described above) $490.00

TAX $16.66

DEALER TOTAL $897.05

UR Crank Pulley + 2 belts $226.60
AmsOil oil+filter+tranny+fuel $133.30

GRAND TOTAL $1,256.95

And I haven’t even done my timing belt!!!

I think I'll wait to replace my timing belt till I hit 120k miles. Hopefully I'll be smarter before I get there. I could of sworn I was going to get special treatment from my dealer since I "thought" we had a special relationship. I feel so foolish now...DAMN I'M AN IDIOT!

Till then I'll pray to the gods that whatches over "fsttyms1"'s timing belts and hopes he looks over me too.
