i dont think so.. if its from japan it would have all the japanese specs and other things that they have that we dont. and ours is an acura.. not an honda. most likely the only one coming hhere out of our country is canada. i could be wrong, but i doubt they would just bring the tl's straight from japan

The '99-'03 TL are made in Marysville, OH plant. The Japanese model (Inspire, etc) are also made on the same line ... just imported back to Japan.

Aside: those people who want to do a JDM conversion of their TL order their parts from Japan (Honda Access) -- but those parts are made in USA!!!

Note that the 2nd Gen TL is the Honda Inspire in Japan but the new Inspire in Japan is now the USDM Honda Accord.

But yeah all of our cars are assembled in Ohio, although some of the parts were made in Japan. Our transmissions for example were at one point made in Japan. I believe in 2001 there was a switchover so they were made in the US. Notably, the highest level of transmission failures occurred after the switchover happened.

Are you sure? My family has an '03 TL-S and the window sticker stated the engine was built in the U.S. and the tranny was brought from Japan.

Its only the tranny that is built in Japan. The rest is US.

And only the '96 - '98 TL's were built in Japan, ie 1st generation.

i dont think they were originally going for the "stock" look.. they were just going for the japanese spec name on the TL's.. personally i think that's a great name for our cars.. INSPIRE.

The 03's at least from Canada we made in the states. When I imported mine to the US, the Customs guy checked the labels and said it was made in the US, so I technically was just returning manufactured goods back to the US so no import fees (plus I owned the car for a year also).

Was told by the salesman that the us tl's have the hood release under the hood on the right hand side. The Japanese have it on the left hand side... .

Exclamation

You can find out if a honda/acura is made in North America or in Japan by it's VIN. All cars assembled in Japan start with a J in their VIN.
