TLS/CLs on high end power, somehow got stuck?
Hey guys, this is an intelligent board, so do n't mind me post some doubts about these 2 great cars.
I was with my friend in his 98'' GS300 he has only an intake/with ecu. so pretty much the car isn't that much different from the stock. We met up a friend who drove a CL-s to go to movies.
However, on the high way, going from 65 we both floored it. both cars have 2 persons in it, the CLS goes about the same from 65~80, but from 80 to 100 GS start gaining, it was about a car length ahead. CLs closed in on 100 but that 1 car length stay until we both hit 110. Is my friend's CL-s perticularly suck? what do you guys think about tat
Here is another one, I was with my friend's GS300 again, we raced a TL-s from the stop light, easy to say, we got smoked pretty bad. However, coincidently we both went on the same highway, so there we goes again from 65 to 100. The TLS is fast until we hit around 85, then it slowed down, the GS300 starts gaining. so it was about 0.5~1 car length, we stay that way, TL-s couldn't pull and we couldn't gain any better too.
any opinion is welcome~ = )

it's the gearing. as soon as you hit 4th gear, you're pretty much accelerating VVVEEERRRRYYYY SSSSLLLOOOWWWLLLYY.
the best you can do is keep it in 3rd as long as possible (a little over 100mph), but after that, hope you ahve a lead big enough that 4th doesn't suck you down too far.
(4th is overdrive for city driving).

The car should be able to pull away from you in the 1-2-3 gears...until about 110...then you should really start to gain....the 4-5 gearing on our cars are OD gears....
You have to be aggressive on using the SS in order to keep the car in the correct gear though.

There is no way a GS300 would keep up with the TL-S from any speed. For God sakes, I hung with my friends 98 GS400 (he did edge me out, but it was a good race). The only time the TL-S is not a rocket is from 110 to about 120 (it still gains speed though), then the TL-S pulls decently after that in the upper RPM's of 4th gear.

Now the GS400/430 is one thing but a GS300?? Isnt that the same engine in the ES300 which is much lighter?? I have no problem taking my friend in his ES300. The numbers just dont maek sense to me. I have no problem accelerating in 3rd which will take my over 100mph pretty quick. Once I hit the overdrive gears then the fun starts slowing down.

They are definetly not the same engine, heh. The GS300 is an 220-hp inline-6. Inline-6s produce a flatter power curve. The M3, like all BMW 6 cylinders that I can think of is an inline-6.

As far as the comparion to the M3, yeah they are both inline 6's but thats where the similarities end.
Theres only one way for me to find out though, Hehehehe

I never said anything about a GS3 beats a TL-s did i? it did beat the CLs on high end, but never I mentioned the TL-s lost to a GS3.
from offline, TL-s can smoke the GS3 in anytime, but from 85~120 TLs can't smoke a GS3 by that much. it will sure win, but it wont keep on gaining or pulling by more than 1~2 car lengths.

Well at higher speeds GS 3 is more aerodynamic and torque is about the same so it may be possible but it is very VERY VERY tough to catch up wth someone over 100 mph ....
GS4 can barely beat what I do not think so bub......

Sounds like baiting to me. :p
I never even look at a GS300. Not even fast enough to make me get excited about a race.
Now where is that pesky first GS400 victim? Why are they all hiding from me?
Did someone let the cat out of the bag that I'm hunting them?
