TL vs. LS Legend
The first week I got my TL, my friend with a 93 LS 4dr legend wanted to race me. All he had was an intake. I thought to myself that my 225 hp TL would take care of his legend with only 200hp + maybe 5 hp from the intake without a problem. So we lined up our cars at a red light, when it turn green, I floored my gas pedal. I was about half a car length ahead of him the whole time until my car reached about 80mph. Thats when he caught up and eventually beating me towards the end. Any Answers for this?

I dont know if it makes a difference or not, but I wasn't using my sport shift when I was racing. I just left it in the regular driving position. I'm 100% that he has nothing other than an intake in his car. The only thing that may make a difference is that he's been racing his legend for awhile, and I heard that the ECU adjust to driving conditions. Maybe his ECU may have increased his air and fuel ratio?

People always underestimate Legends... I used to too... those really are quick little phuckers. My friend's 92 Coupe (5 speed) with exhaust and intake can keep up with my Stock (for now) TL. It's a very close race.

it's the transmision. if you leave it in normal driving position, I assume you put it in D5... which when you reach about 80 MPH, you're in fifth gear, which SUCKS BIG TIME! either use the sport shift and keep in 4th gear or just use D4. and when you see your opponent catching up, down shift to thrid and floor it. cuz the third gear in the TL is pretty awesome.
Remember, when racing, never use fifth gear in TL...

3rd Gear in the Legends is just incredable. The Legend is not much of a street racer, but more of a highway hawk. Many cars will have a tough time keeping up at higher speeds with the 200hp Type I and even more so with the 230hp Type II. And yes, the Legend was discontinued in 1995. Legends lack VTEC, but for some reason there is a lot of power through most of the RPM range. Don't underestimate the Legend, for a heavy car it can haul. Peace.

Before my father got his CL Type S he had a 95 Legend LS coupe with the 6-speed. I tried to get him to race, but he wasn't interested. It's probably better off though because he probably would have beaten me.

You guys are talking about a G2 legend beating you. Check this out. I raced my friends 90 Legend two months after I got my car. I had 2000 miles on it and he had 90000. I thought I would kill him. I even punched it before he did and he caught up with me and I only beat him by a car length or so. That car only has 170 hp and with the lightweight of the car, its fast. He also has S4 and S3 on his car and he raced me on S4.

I considered getting a CL-S but until Acura offers it with a real transmission (manual) I'll pass.
I have a 93 Acura Legend LS coupe 6 speed (Type II 230 HP) with some upgrades - Dinan Stage II chip, RM Racing Intake, Kone Engineering exhaust, HondaClutch high performance clutch, 17" TSW Revos, 215 50 17 Toyo Proxes TS1s, Brembo slotted/cross drilled rotors, Porterfield pads, SCM stainless braided brake lines, etc.
Anyway, turns high 14s and does 60 in a tick over 6 seconds, but it's real strength is from 60 up. The VTEC 3.2 liter is a nice engine, in a nice car, but it can't run with the high performance 6 speed Legends. Too bad Honda stopped making the Legend, and too bad they didn't offer the VTEC 3.2 liter (NSX) with 290 HP in the 6 speed coupe.
BTW, I don't think a TL automatic would do all that well against the GS automatic sedan the Type II coupes with automatics either.
Still and all, the TL is a really nice Honda, quick, luxurious, tight. Enjoy.

i guess i should mention that when i race fiddler's accord coupe (98' 4 speed auto) he seems to catch up to me and edge me out when we hit about 115, thats when i have to shift into 4th and he catches up with me... but i have a strong lead thru the first 3 speeds, we both have aem short rams and shocks/springs/sway mods... so thats also something to think about...

Red Hot TL: The transmission will not upshift to 5th gear by 80MPH if you floor it. It doesn't randomly pick speeds at which to shift... when it's floored it shifts at redline. 3rd gear in my 2000 tops out at ~100MPH. If I kept it floored to top speed it would theoretically never shift to 5th because it reaches top speed in 4th gear (and even then doesn't redline 4th).

Hi Blackshadow
The Legend is definitely a Honda! It says Honda on the engine, not Acura. Acura is some marketing baloney they came up with to help sell expensive Hondas in the USA and Canada.

Be nice guys, both cars are very nice, and suprisingly fast. That race sounds about what all the Legends go though. The Legend is really heavy. One Legend owner weighed his car on those large car scales, and it came out to 3720lbs. My door jam reads 3750lbs, so that is about right I guess. Anyway, all the Legends usually loose in the begining off the start due to the bad starts they get from the heavy weight. If the Legend driver is not a good driver, then he will have a hard time to recover from that loss in the begining, unless he has a lot of road to work with. Other then that, it has a suprisingly strong top end from around 75MPH-135+ MPH. It seems to keep pulling very strong in that range, and overcomes many other cars on the road because of that. In short races, even some Civic Sis, and Integra GS-Rs can edge out the Legend at times. Any long highway race though, and the Legend holds its own with many. Just be glad there are guys like Tanner running 13.99 with his TL

Wow that's pretty quick for a TL 13.99 Tanner? My 91 Legend was pretty quick. All i had was an intake and shocks & springs. But the audio stuff loaded it down a bit. Legend is a great car, too bad they messed it up with the RL.
