Thumbs up TL vs Catera... a study in opposites!

Went to an auto show today. It's nice to see a whole bunch of cars together like that so you can REALLY compare them. I didn't look much at the TL because I've driven them a couple times and am really familiar with them. Plus, I have a CL-S. I did look at the Catera though. This car is widely regarded as the bottom of the near-luxury class and the TL is regarded near, if not the top. It is sooooo obvious why!!! The Catera is simply a huge piece of crap. The design is pathetic at best - both interior and exterior. Poor fit & finish, too expensive, WAY too heavy, crappy performance. Even the way the doors shut tell you how awful this car is. I realize I am little biased towards Acura, but when you look at this car you wonder why anyone would buy it? I have to assume that people who bought that car did not look at anything else in its class.

I guess they just wanted the statute of a Caddy but couldn't afford the STS, etc.

I thought about a Catera when I was in the new car market, but I was quickly turned off. My verdict: it's an Impala LS with Cadillac badges.

The catera was based off a Opel sold only in europe(forget the model)when it came out. They only added six cylinders and caddy badges and american specs. I thought about buying one when i was over seas (1996), but decided against it. As for the new one, it looks nice but i really don't know anything about it.

That's probably why there are considerably more TLs than Cateras out there. TLs, I see 5 to 10 a day, where as Cateras, I see... dayum, I don't remember the last time I saw one on the street.

Drove a my friend's Catera one day. Feel's very good for a american car, to tell you the truth it's pretty refined. But I still like the feeling I get with the TL. In one of those car magazines, Road & Track Buyers Guide. They were testing it head to head with another car as well. If my memory serves me right, the TL beat both of them to claim first spot.

The TL in their words was the best value and was the best performer. They were also impressed that the NAV systems was available or something like that too.
