Exclamation TL vs IS battle

In a race against a stock 2002 IS 300 e-shift would my stock 2001 TL-P win? (All I have is an K&N filter)
The race will be in dry conditions and from a stop who would win?

0-50 mph? (parking lot which is most likely to be raced)

0-70 mph?

Or an all out run 0-100+ mph?

If you're going to start from a dead stop, thr IS may jump from you on the launch as you'll get wheelspin. However, you should catch him pretty quickly and pass soon thereafter.

That's what happened every time I raced my friend's 2001 IS with my 2000 TL.

You can't launch at 3000 rpms..the torque converter won't let you. The stall speed is set at 2500 rpms.

Bottomline, when someone throws that bad ass turbo charger on the IS, you have something to worry about...Until then, it should be an easy kill for you...Ive upset too many ES/GS/IS owners on their lucky days...I dont know why these cars try to test, I set their **** to rest...Shyne

So should I lanch at 2,300 rpm with TCS off?

I remember once that someone said 2000-3000 rpm's will give a good lanch with stock tires?

You should have no problem with the auto IS300, but over 100mph he might pull on you cause they have better gearing.

Beware of the manual IS though, they are as fast as a Type S if driven correctly.

Correct me if I am wrong, but when I was looking a the compeditors Car & Driver rated the IS 300 Manual at a 15.8 quarter and the type S at 14.8. Seems like a spanking to me.. maybe they're wrong?

i don't think you should have a problem taking the is300, especially if your car is 2000 or later. My 99 TL is completely stock and i raced my friends e-shift stock is300 the other day...even though he has z rated tires and limited slip differential i actually got a jump on him and beat him pretty well to 75...wasnt expecting to get ahead of him right off the line to tell the truth, but i was pleasantly surprised. But once I got into 4th gear, the rpm started moving up a lot slower...so try to stay in 3rd gear as long as possible.

Smile IS300 vs TL-P

i got a 2000 TL and my cousins got a 2001 IS300. both of our cars got stock engines (no mods) and on the few occasions that we race its VERY close...were pretty much neck and neck til we decide to slow down (100+ mph)

i guess the only factor is the driving...gotta be able to win off the line or itll be a draw

Are you sure that time is not for auto, cause the auto IS runs between 15.5-15.8 from several mags, we shouldn't believe them anyways. Believe me the IS manual is quick, I've driven one and is almost as fast as my TL.

Thumbs down no need to race

my boy has an is
neck and neck all the way through
theres no point
we raced over 4 times from dead stop no matter what same thing
theres nothing interesting or big
with a manual he may have the advantage
of only being a 2-3 feet ahead of you.

make sure you have a good response at take off it makes the diffrence between the two cause they have similar power range.

a good race between the two would be a rolling start at 60 mph and make it up to 100 mph.

You should have no problem with an auto IS.
The manual should be the same or a little faster.
