TL Sunroof Rattle - Fixed?

I fixed the sunroof rattle in my 2000 TL by applying a thin coating of belt dressing to the rubber gasket that surrounds the glass. Don't know how long this will last or whether there are any long-term problems with doing this but the car is quiet again and feels solid once more. It is amazing to me how much a rattle detracts from the overall "feel" of a car.

I used "Snap" brand belt dressing which is available at auto supply stores and sprayed it on a cloth and wiped it around the gasket. Has anyone else tried this? Does it last? Any problems?

Yuk; that black sticky stuff will get all over the paint.... Not to mention have all sorts of junk get stuck into it.

Just use regular vinyl dressing or silicone; it lasts for a week or two.

Neither black nor sticky!

The "Snap" dressing is neither black nor sticky and it does not make the rubber gasket tacky or stick to the paint. It sprays on the cloth as a white foam and applies as a clear liquid.

I'll report back on how long it lasts.

Yes that Snap dressing will work. I have a bottle in my garage so I have been using it forever. It'll last awhile..but if it goes away, just reapply..doesn't really take that long. I usually re-apply it whenever I clean out my car and such.

Joelhel, dont waste time with that. The sunroof squeak is a known problem for the TL and you can get clear teflon tape at the dealership that fixes the problem permanently. Its got adhesive on the back. Its basically scotchtape made from teflon and you apply it around the metal roof opening. It keeps the rubber seal from rattling.

- I got the tape 18 months ago. Still quiet (makes the other squeaks louder). On second thought, maybe that squeak wasn't so bad...

No you dont see the tape. it lines the inside metal edge of the roof opening. it doesnt come up and over to the top of the roof. When the roof is open you dont see it from inside the car looking up either because the tape is clear.
