I wanted to put the 5 spoke Type-S wheels on my 2001 TL ( I like the look, and the parts guy said they're only $183. ea) but the factory sent the dealer a service memo stating they will not fit because of clearance problems. The parts guy could not elaborate on where the problem exactly is, so I figured the best place to find out was right here. If I roll the wheel well lips would that cure the problem? Hope someone out there has the real answer as I'd hate to spend the money and be surprised. Thanks

 

The TL-S has a stop in the steering rack that limits wheel angle during turns. This is why the parts dept told you they wouldn't fit. They will fit but rub when turning against the stops.

 

and dont forget that you'll also have to change the tires, not just the rims (16" TL 17" TLS), so it'll cost a bit more
