Also what is Acura's extended warranty roadside assistance policy? Infiniti will bring me a loaner and let me take it wherever I want, then have my car sent to my final destination after it is repaired and take back the loaner.

Unfortunately, there is no way to tell if the transmission is at serious risk. You can contact Acura Client Services and see if they'll check the VIN for a transmission replacement if it has been done.

I have no experience with Acura TLC, but I would assume they would offer similar services to Infiniti.

Yeah unfortunately in my experience a lot of Acura dealers don't even know much about the problem...when I was looking at a TL-S the other day I asked the salesperson if the transmission recall had been done. The only response I got was a scared look and "there are no problems with the transmissions in these, they're so good".

Credit the extra fifth ratio in its five-speed automatic, which is able to make better use of the 3.2-litre VTEC motor's power and torque. Despite fantastic kickdown performance on the highway from its four-speed, the I35 can't keep up; acceleration from rest is hampered by a huge gap between first and second gears which results in a noticeable pause in the proceedings. Don't worry, though; the Infiniti is still more than fast enough in traffic, and still has enough torque to vaporize the front tires should you switch off the traction control (the Acura comes with VSA stability control). "
Although my experience tells me otherwise, that summation pretty much explains the nature of both cars: The VQ35DE being a low end torque beast and the J32A being a high end screamer. What that article failed to mention in its reference to 'vaporizing the front tires' is that it can be done under 1/2 throttle.

Always nice to see a positive review of your own car, eh?

Here is another one on the 2002 TL-S from the same site (not a comparo...)

Enjoy!

Yeah I did notice that when I was driving it...a lot of low-end power.

One more thing I'm noticing is that in my area a 2002 TL-S is going to have about 30k more miles on it than a comparably priced 2002 I35, both coming from Acura and Infiniti dealerships respectively....this is definately a consideration too.

i have to say i think the I35 has a much nicer interior...but if ur looking for a much sportier exterior look and better performance, i'd say the TL-S. I'd go test drive them both to see how you like them both...I'm not sure how nice the I35 will look after mods, check around on a forum and see if it even has mods.

As u can see from this forum, the TL is one of the sexiest sedans u can buy after just a few mods.

Not false. The I35 isn't sold anymore new. You can find used ones.

I didn't mean new. Slightly used, almost new, that was the type of car MattB was looking for. Sorry for confusion, I know they discontinued the I35

Welcome to AcuraZine!

It's great you're considering a Second Gen TL! Please create a thread in the Car Talk forum located Off Topic. This type of thread really belongs there.

Good luck!

Thanks.
