TL-S vs. cadillac sts @ bmw m5
My TL-S was even with the caddy and 1/2 car length behind bmw m5 from 0 to 60 mph. at 85 still even with sts and 1 car length behind m5. I hit the brakes at 88. I'm stock now but have ordered headers and supercharger and lowering springs plus the tranny cooler.(all comptech) 2002 TL-S with 22,000 miles in south Fl. no brake or tranny problems yet.

M5 woulda crushed you unless he can't drive or it was old. I'm kinda surprised about the STS. On the highway they seem to have more umph from a roll than standard 0-85...I use them for rentals (STS) on trips and it's funny how I hate them. I drove one about 2 months ago that had 45 miles on it and it rattled worse than my first car (Datsun B-series). Plus the cruise was all over the place. It's amazing people fork out $50k for something so shi++y...

Our realtor has an STS. After 35,000 miles he is on his 6th steering rack. Last year his car was at the shop more than at his house, and the dealer had to dish out about $8,000 in car rental fees.

Enterprise in Florida...I'm an adjuster so we get 'em for $25.99 a day for work or pleasure...Pretty good deal for trips and lugging people around, but every one of them is a POS in my opinion. And when I say rattle, I mean like a 6month old with a rattle in its hand rattle...Drives me fu(k!ng crazy...Decent stereo, though. The cruise (they have the digital speedo) gets set on 82mph and I can watch the stupid thing go from 78 to like 85 without hills or anything else being around. I think it's a sled...That all being said, if I was in the mob and needed to kill a family of 5, I'd own this car for its trunk space...

I had an STS before the TL-S and frankly, I often wish I still had the STS. It had far fewer rattles and annoying noises than the TL. The stereo was way better (but not surprising with the price difference.) The TL does not handle THAT much better, in my opinion. And, while the TL is faster from a dead stop, there is no competing with the power of the Northstar V8 once you get moving.
I am very picky when it comes to cars, and I had some annoyance issues with the STS. However, they were all fixed by my dealership. The same cannot be said of all the noises I have on the TL.
Oh, and the STS never had a failure of the magnitude of the TL's transmission needing to be replaced!
