TL-S Vs. 328i
This guy at my school said that he would burn my TL-S with his 328i. Can he actually beat me? no right? and do u guys think that i should use SS or just regular D5. i'm completely stock and he has a custom intake. what do u guys think?

is he auto or manual?
if he is auto, you should smoke him regardless in SS or D5
BMW 3 series are nice cars, but to burn a TL-S will take more than a 328i. Go bang some sense into his head and deflate his BMW ego a little bit.

I have a TLP and sent an Auto 328 away with his tail between his legs. It was a red 99 coupe. I slipped it into SS, and beat him by about a car and a half and i was still going and he just cut off.

Well, you need to get a good jump off the start. It's harder with out TL VS his RWD Bimmer.
On the Highway he might have a chance, and if he is a good driver with stick, he might have a chance, too.
But since it's an AUTO, I think you just have to turn off VSA, remember that and Torque Brake at around 2500rpm then you should be fine....
But guys don't under-est. the Bimmers thought. Their gear ratio are meant for highway high speed passing.
If you are a good driver, you should be able to take him even in the twisties...
Good luck... and be safe

If you are refering to some magazine numbers, then I think you are talking about the 0-60 right? cuz 1/4 mile is a better indicator.
With the 0-60 time, maybe the Ci got a bad start while the Xi with it's AWD can jump off the line. But I think the Ci will be albe to cache up with weight advantage before the end of the 1/4

put it at D3 for the best results...
i have beaten a manual 328i with my old buick regal...yes...i was half a car faster with my 2nd gear pulling up to 80mph then we slowed down...
he lost the edge a bit coz he was slower on the shifting...

yeah if he's auto you must be able to beat him, either off the line or on a roll. even if he's a stick you have good chance of beating him too. from my experience only 330i and 330ci can have a close race with us (of course, stick)
and yeah, 330xi is not faster than 330ci. 330ci is much lighter and it's actually faster (but you don't want that car in snowing places )
and for the record i have beaten about 5 or 6 3 series.... don't really know all their models coz' i never gotta see their tails

oh yeah one tip in racing with the 3 series (or any other rwd cars in general). if you go off the line from stop, you would proably noticed that they jump out pretty well and maybe even gained 1/3 car length in front of you. DO NOT freak!!! just continue to put your foot on the gas and shift when needed and you will gain it back. i believe their initial gain is due to their rwd but we got power
