Hi Guys, I've recently decided to get an 02 type S for 500 bucks as a project car since my sister blew a head gasket on my 00. I had a few questions, I've searched online everywhere and cannot get a definite answer, the million dollar question is will a 2000 TL transmission work on a 2002 TL Type S? If so, is it a direct swap? I also have one more question, I have an abs, vsa and /!\ lit up on the dash, what could be causing that? Thanks a ton!!!!!

 

For that price on the TL-S is 99% possible that it has a dead trans.. Dead trans will give you a P0740 code which makes ABS, VSA, and the ! Triangle to remain ON.
So you more than likely need a trans.

Now you have 2 possible options here..
Swap the TL-p trans you already got and burn it in a couple of years.
Swap the AV6 trans and have a car for lots of many years.

Its your choice.
Answering your question AFAIK the TL-p trans will bolt on the TL-S, but you will have to swap the PS Speed sensor too (Mainly to cover the hole) and the gear ratios for 4th and 5th will not be the updated for the TL-S = less oomp at highway.

 

Wow that sucks, I got the one in my TL-P completely rebuilt about 12000 miles ago, the car seems to go forward and backward, but I haven't had a chance to drive it since it needs a water pump, it was a repo car so I needed to get a key and it was cheap, thanks for the info!
