TL-S Growl
You know that sweet growl that your Type S makes when you get on it ? Is that just for your own listening pleasure or do other cars get some of that too? I'm talking stock exhaust system with no mods.
A G37 coupe accelerated around me the other day and you can certainly hear his jets even with my windows up and stereo loud. I know our Type Ss aren't as kick ass as a G37 coupe but it would be nice to know that we can share our growl a little too. I'm not planning on modding my exhaust, just wondering.

Remove your intake resonator and you will have a far louder growl than the G37

Yep, the resonator is on my to do list and I do expect to hear a difference at vtec. Don't know about it being louder than the G37 though. When the G37 zagged around me he wasn't ballistic, just accelerating to fill a hole in traffic but boy did it sound sweet. Next time you pull up behind one, hang with it and listen to it run through the gears. You will hear every shift and not in a ricer kind of way. I think TLs only can be heard growling when approaching vtec without major mods. That's fine by me as long as long as some of that growl is coming out of the tail piece.

Your car with the resonator removed WILL be louder than a G (thats stock)

Back to the original question though, is some of that growl actually spit out the rear? When I get on it, I think I hear some of it from the back end but it's hard to tell. Just want to know if the stock type S has a sport tuned exhaust that can be heard by other drivers. It's all vanity, but what isn't.

Well, here's to making my car out snarl a G37 by an easy mod. Now if only I can out run one! Yeah, I know - mod, mod, mod .

turbine/jet with afterburner powered was an option for 2 years~
...but was hard on the trans
The OPs car may already have the resonator box removed if its noticable intake sound
You only hear air sucking in at vtec when its really pulling some volume in
Get rid of that box, and install a high flow filter like k&n or fram hog for best results
Will still pas CA smog with no questions-not even checked!
The rest of the exhaust you have less leeway with here, check with a smog shop or performance muffler place for whats ok---you can change brands (use better flowing cat) but not remove things,, in most cases

with my cold air intake, i can make some pretty loud noise but its basically all coming from the intake. just removing the mid muffler should give just a little more sound correct? i dont want to sound like a riced out civic, lol.

so the mid muffler doesn't really do much on a TL-p? or will it be farty sounding with just the mid muffler removed? also, does a cold air intake affect the exhaust note in anyway, i think it does?
i cant seem to find a good sound clip of just the mid muffler removed, every clip i find has both the mid muffler and exhaust resonator removed and i dont want to sound like that.

the g's get there sounds from there engine not the exhaust system... like how the subaru boxer engine sounds... you will never be able to copy that sound unless you have that motor, just throwing the g's exhaust on the TL would be a huge waste of money

My '02 RL has a very deep growl thanks to the removal of the intake resonator, much like an NSX actually.

thanks for posting that video clip, it give me a good idea of how it sounds, i am just wondering if it will sound different on a TL-p. the tl-p has a smaller exhaust is i am assuming it will not be as loud, which is what i want.
