TL-S Gas mileage expectations
I just got my TL-S yesterday and am curious about what kind of gas mileage to expect. I don't plan on any mods and drive relatively conservatively (although that is very difficult with this rig). 70% highway (LA traffic), 30% city.
I've seen a few posts on this MB about mileage, but not many. One of the reasons I bought this vehicle was the fuel economy/performance factor. I was considering the G35, but lurked on a couple of MBs and found that some people were getting as low as 12mpg and nobody reported more that 23. That is totally unacceptable for me. I was getting 23-26 (max of 29 pure highway driving) from my 96 Maxima and hope that I can duplicate that with the TL-S. I admit that I am seduced by this car's power, so it's not likely that I'll drive so conservatively for at least a few months.
Please post your mileage numbers and give me some kind of idea what to expect. Thanks.

I got my 2002 TL-S only a few weeks after it was first released in March 2001. Since that time, I have carefully measured and noted gas mileage under different conditions. Usually if I hold 75-80 mph with the A/C on, 5 passenger, and a full trunk, I have managed as much as 34 MPG once (on my recent trip to NYC). However, usually on such trips I get 31-32 MPG. On the city, I have gotten a best of 24 MPG (in NYC). On average, I get about 22 MPG in the city. I also noted that MPG got better as the car put on more miles. My car is stock by the way.

From my experience, if I drive below the VTEC range, I could get from 25-30 miles/gallon. If I keep hitting the VTEC range ... then I would be lucky to get 21-20 miles/gallon.
Now since the gas price has gone sky high, I have been driving conservatively...
Cheers !!!

Driving in LA, you gotta contend with the traffic as well as the occasional freeway races you get into...
But thus far, I have not gotten anything below 20mpg, even with spirited driving. Best mileage of course, can be had on pure freeway driving. On one roadtrip to the Bay Area I managed about 27-29mpg (4 1/2 hr trip), which isn't as great as some of the other member's mpg I've heard about, but hey, I was making terrific time on I-5. Typically in mixed city-highway driving, I get about 24-26mpg. Of course, my AC is usually not on, and I usually practice good driving habits (no tailgating, easy starts)---but it can be hard to hold back on this baby, so once in a while, I let her go....

Want better mileage? Drop in a K&N filter and ease up on the gas pedal. Definitely a good idea with gas prices today.

When I first bought the car back in 10/01, I was surprised to see both the TL-P and TL-S having the same estimated fuel economy of 19/29, seeing as how the Type S has 35 more HP. I would've still gotten the Type S over the P regardless of the fuel economy difference so it's all good.
I drive roughly 75% fwy and 25% city and consistently get around 25 mpg. This is usually spirited driving at 75-80mph. Usually it's in the neighborhood of 320 miles (give or take 10) when the fuel light comes on.
Only mod I have is the drop in K&N. Make sure your tires are properly inflated. My fronts are at 34 and rears at 33. Can't stress this fact more times...low inflated tires kill your mpg.

I recently helped my parents buy a Audi A-6. The gas door says to use premium gas. The dealer said w/the amount of Alcohol in the gas in our area regular gas is just fine (and much cheaper). Do you think that is OK w the tl-s? Does that make sense?

I just got back from Atlanta...I got 27mph and drove on cruise set at 86mph. Was with the a/c on and had hard passing here and there. Normal city driving gets me 22mpg driving it pretty hard, and you can see the mods in my sig...

Ok, filled up for the first time -- got 24.9 mpg. Not too bad. City/Freeway mix in LA traffic. Fuel light came on at 340 miles. I babied her pretty much for the last couple hundred miles.
I also checked my Maxima mileage for the past couple of years and was getting 25-26 mpg. Not bad -- 70 more HP and about the same gas mileage. I love technology...

I just took a trip to my parents - 3 hours highway each way and some city driving mixed in as well. I got 424 miles from 14.79 gallons. That's 28.65 mpg. Not too shabby for 260hp. My Stang has gotten as high as 24 mpg back when I first bought it, now it consistently guzzles between 15-18 mpg.
So yes, it is very nice to have your cake and eat it too.

mileage
My wife drives a G35 and I drive a TL-S. The Acura gets about 5 MPG more than the Infiniti. If someone is real concerned about mileage the TSX should do great. I also have a 98 CL that gets the same mileage as my TL-S, thank goodness for technology is right.

Not exactly sure how mine has been doing. But my last car, a 1991 Dodge Stealth R/T would get 28-29 mpg on the highway somehow... even if all loaded down. I just hope my new car will be beating that.
