Post TL-S faster than CL-S?

I was reading the MotoTrend magazine yesterday. TL-S got 6.28 sec. from 0-60 while CL-S got 6.4 sec. How is that possible? I thought they both have the same engine. CL-S is lighter than TL-S right?

From www.acura.com:

For the TL:
Curb Weight 3.2 TL - 3492 lbs. (3508 lbs. with Navigation system)
TL Type S - 3558 lbs. (3574 lbs. with Navigation system)

For the CL:
Curb Weight 3470 lb. (3485 lb. with Navigation System)
Type S: 3510 lb. (3525 lb. with Navigation System)

Weight difference is pretty much negligible, roughly equivalent to 6 gallons of gasoline. IMHO, 6.4 and 6.28 is pretty much dead nuts even.

Realistically, the fastest 3.2CL Type S, if it were tested by the same crew on the same day would have come in faster than 6.28, and the slowest 3.2TL Type S would have come in slower than 6.4. For that matter, if they brought these cars back after a few thousand miles, chances are they'd perform slightly differently.

What about the weight of the rims, the TLS does feature a different rim. Enviroment could be an issue but rotating mass can also. There are way too many variables but yeah 6.28 and 6.4 isn't much of a difference. It's just the numbers that the magazines got that's all.

6.4 and 6.28 are nearly identical to me. Just because they got those numbers once doesnt mean they can get the same numbers the next time around. There are just too many variables involved

I'd believe the TL-S rims are lighter b/c they aren't as wide.

Those numbers dont mean a thing...

2 cars... with different mileage... different drivers... different amounts of gasoline on the tank... on a completely different day under completely different conditions.

6.28 and 6.4 cant be compared when you factor that in.

In reality these cars are dead even... like eharmon said... the TL-S weighs more... but no more then 6 gallons of gas. And maybe the TL-S has lighter wheels... but I doubt enough to make any difference whatsoever... and you could argue the CL-S has more grip on launch since it has wider tread on the ground.

Realistically though... these are the same exact cars.

Cool

What about aerodynamics of these cars ? Are they identical ?

The reason is that an SUV and a sportscar can have the same weight/engine/transmission and whatnot but have totally different aerodynamics.....

But in case of the TL-s/CL-s, I have no doubt that the timings would be identical..

just my 2c

Well, I think it all comes down to the driver after all. Since the spec of the two are pretty close
