TL performance.....

What mods are out there that can make my TL-S be around 14.0-14.2 without buying a Supercharger. I want to upgrade my performance on my car, you know at least around those times. Im not looking for a 13.5 out of my car so dont say "buy another car or buy a Z" just fast enough to know i have the power when i want to use it.. but am not considering going the sc route as it is way too expensive and is the last mod i would ever do.

THe only perforance mod i know for our cars are:

headers
intake
UR puillies
Exhaust
chip
and last supercharger

If im mising any let me know...

Get Nitrous if you want the extra power when you need it. Also, there's the Apexi V-AFC 1 or 2. Not really a gain in horsepower it just ingages the v-tec earlier when it can kick at lower rpms.

VTEC Controller will add like horsepower if you get it tuned by a professional... A kid on campus has one on his S2000 and it's sick fast.

i think you'll need NOS to get those numbers..

btw a V-AFC wont give you more than 10-15whp

i/h/e/p are the basics, these will get you down to 14.5...Vafc might give you like 10hp when proffesionally tuned by an apexi dealer (gains only in modified vtec range) and might bring you from 14.5 to 14.3...if you want the 14.0, get all of this and a 64mm throttle body.

I'm actually looking busily looking around for a way to bore a tl-s TB to 70mm+ but then i'll have to change if not get a new wider intake...im hopin i can make this happen for under $500 and hopfully gain like 30hp.

30hp with a bored throttle body and larger intake? i think you have to be more realistic, 5hp would be good....

Test pipe. Take out your cat. Your clogging up about 10-12hp. Put in a test pipe and you'll see a big difference. The only problem you'll have is your check engine light will come on. But if your like me you'll just take out the bulb from the cluster. And if you want your car even faster do a 75 shot of NOS.

heh, i'm all against NOS and stuff but if you really want an economic way of 14 and under go 75 shot or above...

Does anyone make a 150+shot?

I talked to BBK and they said they could bore out a TL-S TB or even the 58mm accord TB to 70mm. for $150 though.

your prob right, but its definetly over 15(-25?) and a very good sound/throttle response...it kinda makes sense if you compare to the 64mm i sold you + your 2.5in intake bc this was probably a good 15hp.

Hmm... 14.0 to 14.2, you'll need a 50 shot of Nitrous. My car has headers, Icebox, and pullies and runs 14.4's.

sound/throttle response is great.. but no way i got 15hp out of the TB.. 5hp maybe, 10 AT MOST.

The Mugen cooling mods won't really net you any horsepower, but it will keep your engine running at optimal temperature for longer periods of time. The Mugen Thermostat, radiator cap, and fan switch should be available from places like kingmotorsports.com ...

On a dyno it was shown to gain about 10whp that was being robbed due to heat.

People have been able to get down to 14.2 w/ headers/intake/exhaust/pullies on a type S.

But from what I've seen on these boards over the years is that not all cars or drivers are created equal. Some TLs seem to be a bit faster than others straight from the factory, and others a bit slower. And naturally, some people know how to drive their TLs better than others.

Whatever you do DO NOT get a 150 shot of nitrous for your TL especially if it's 2002-03. I just got in my V-AFC II today and I'm gonna install it once my car gets out of the shop and get it dynoed.

ok i am a noob when it comes to NOS.. I have a few questions about NOS...

First off, is it safe having NOS in your car? Is it hard to install or maintain? Usage for me will be every now and then..NOt everyday.... once or twice a month..

Or whenever some punk is f#!king with me. lol..... I have seen a Guy on here with a TL-S doing 13.9 with either 50 or 75 shot of NOS.. Dont know if he had other mods..

well best setup is in the trunk, i have a 2000 tlp with basically stock except denso sparks and intake resonator removed sprayin 75shots, at WOT with sprayin my tires lite up my rpms jump to 6k while distroyin the tires and switchin to 2nd gear (gate shifting), then getting grip. just to give u an idea of the power ive ran an unsuspecting 350z left him by 1-1.5 cars all the way to 105 this is with 215/40/r17 uhpt. i'd say youll hit easy high 13s or low low 14s with minor mods and good tires maybe 235 rubbers. my next mod is installin the headers i got sitting next to me, later getting pullies.. eventually when i need rubbers ill get 235s. i might be talkin out of my ass since i havent taken my car to the track but nos has made a BIG improvement

With most systems, there will be a switch that will turn the system on. Then from there, you have a micro switch either hooked to your gas pedal or throttle body. When you are in WOT, it will spray, but only if you are under WOT, with the system active.

NOS is a brand actually, N2O is nitrous.

NOS, ZEX, or Nitrous Express are all good brands. If you don't have a local speed shop to buy your system from, you could mail order it from NOPI, Jegs, Summit or something similar.

There are LOTS of options when buying a N20 system:
-Bottle heater(keeps the bottle at optimum pressure)
-Remote turn on, so that you can open the bottle in your trunk from the cab.
-Blow down tube and overpressure release valve is required to race at almost any track. You should install these for safety as well regardless of if you plan to race or not.
-Purge kit, this will release the N20 from a nozzle and clean any air out of the line. You can also use this to clean the line after you use the system.

If you don't feel confident installing the system, make sure you have some one qualified for the task, you really want to make sure the WOT switch works as it should, you can very easily blow the engine if you spray N20 in anything under about 60% throttle, and that is even pushing it.

This may sound dumb, but make sure there is somewhere convienent and not totally overpriced to have your bottle filled at. It shouldn't cost much more than about $25-30 to have a 10lb bottle filled.

As long as the WOT switch is hooked up and working correctly, NO it is not easy to do. By blowing your engine I mean breaking a rod, breaking a ring landing on a piston, burning a valve or something similar. Your car would never really explode unless the bottle pressure gets too high, this is why you want an overpressure valve, and a blow down tube.

ok so basiclaly what is all i need? in terms of safety, performance.. what kit am i looking at? and for what price? and where?

this kit is for a person:

-who will use NOS like maybe 1-2 times a month or so.
-who is Very careful or wants to be careful.
-who perfers a switch
-who intends to keep their car for a long time...
-who accepts decent price such as maybe 600 or less.
-who wants to keep it safe and effective

so what kit falls in my list?

Also does NOS mess up our engine? I dont want it to mess up the life of my car.. just wondering

thanks for replies

Really, any of those kits will work, they are all designed for Honda/Acura cars, and nitrous kits are pretty universal.

I would go for a wet kit. A little more involved installation, but safer to use overall

i was looking at this one:

http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...22&prmenbr=361

but it says honda 2.0 and 2.3L????

I was also looking at this kit which i think would work better since its universal.

http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...20&prmenbr=361

what you think?
