Is the TL outselling the ES300?
I don't know about you guys but I rarely see a new ES300 on the road while I see a good amount of '02+ TL out there.
I see a lot of the new Camery so I'm wondering what's the deal with the ES300? Too much money?

No, it is called LUXURY. Have you been inside let alone driven a new ES 300? It is a luxury car period. Smooth, REAL wood (lot's off it). Creamy leather seats (not plasticky feeling). Flip out NAV. QUIET as a tomb, stuff like that.
Remember, not EVERYONE tries to race their family car.
THe TL looks more like an Accord and shares more if it's parts and while the ES is built in Japan, your TL is built down the street in Ohio.
TL-too much power, not enough luxury

Making the lower priced Camry look like a ES300 doesn't help also.
Too much money...not enough power

Loving my 08 TLS!
The funny thing is that today I was "sandwiched" between 2 black ES300. One of the guys almost hit me because he was looking at my car instead of the road.

A co-worker of mine has a dark blue ES300. Interior is nice and looks expensive, but otherwise it does nothing for me. I don't particularly care for the driving position and it doesn't have as much usable headroom as the TL. Not a bad car by any means, but it's not really sporty in any way.

Price out a Camry V6 XLE, opt for navigation, traction control and heated seats, you're looking at $31.3k... That's a lot for a family-car Camry with Toyota-level warranty, service and brand identity...

And the TL is too lil money for an upgraded Accord?

I saw a white one today, and they are fugly. The TL looks way better to the exterior. However the refined luxury to the interior of the Lexus beats out the TL. However, due to the $ issue and I prefer the exterior look of the TL, I would take the TL.

Apparently, Lexus has a hit on its hands - sales thru 4 months are 22,843 units this year, 11,869 units last year, for an increase of close to 93% (numbers from PRN Newswire)
Acura TL sales are down to 20,695 units from 23,853 (-13.2%) thru 4 months.
IMO, the new Lexus is in a different category - pure luxury, vs the TL, which is geared for more sport minded buyers. The earlier comment about better Lexus quality is right on - the Lexus fit and finish is superior. Infiniti quality is better than Acura, too
Is the fact that the TL is built in OH the reason - I'm not so sure....my '95 Altima quality was excellent, and it was built in TN.
Maybe Honda needs a bit more attention to QC in the US facilities.

Having recently tested both cars, the ES is much more luxurious than the TL-S. Hands down.
However, comparably priced, the ES300 w/ navi costs about 38k while the TL-S w/ navi costs about 33.5k
For those who want pure luxury, super quiet cabin, and don't care about a strong engine, the ES300 is the way to go. For those who want a more powerful engine, best bang for the buck, and that awesome Honda feel of the road, the TL-S is the way to go.
For me, I can compromise on the luxury and the super quiet cabin for the engine. I love the 260hp and personally, extra sound deadening and slightly better leather seats aren't worth the extra 5k.

It's more than that. It's called details and a lot of people either don't know or do not care. For instance, every compartment that opens opens at the same speed(ashtray, glovebox, nav).
Resale value too, ES 300 resale is strong. Car is strong too. I know my first Lex was an ES 300 5 speed manual that took a licking and kept on ticking. Electroluminicent gauges. Extra sound insulation.
ES 300 is definitely for the "cruiser" making peak 210hp

Although I've heard stories of bad quality from Nissan, I've had 6 since 1995, and totaled 3 visits to the dealer for warranty issues.
My '92 Accord beat that in the first 6 months, but was then flawless for the balance of the 60 months we owned it.
The TL-S has been great, but little details like bumpers that don't color match with the body, and don't fit flush irritate me - I expect perfection from Honda, and I'm willing to live with excellence. I know they can do better!
