TL fake torque figure

when reading the TL brochure, there is a torque-HP figure. From that figure you can see its engine has almost 200 lb-ft of torque @2000rpm.

BUt this is far from true. My feeling is , at 2000rpm, the TL only has half of the acceleration of my 94 Maxima. You have to spool it up over 3000+ rpm to get fast launch.

So it seems the brouchure is cheating?

Why Honda doesn't want to acknowledge its engine lacks low-end torque, and even cheat by giving fake specs?

Maybe you should check your "Brochure" again. This is a quote direct from Acura's website:

"At lower rpm, the 24-valve V-6 engine of the 3.2TL accelerates confidently with torque that peaks at 216 lbs-ft @ 4700 rpm"

Yeah, I won't doubt it peaks at 216 lb-ft at 4700rpm.

My doubt is, the torque figure on TL brochure claims its torque curve is so FLAT that it only drops by 16 lb-ft, and still have 200lb-ft when coming from 4700rpm down to 2000rpm!

I think this is totally buul****. It doesn't even have 150 lb-ft at that speed.

ok..theres no way you can dispute if the car has the specified torque just becasue you cant feel it...they definetly arent cheating by giving fake specs and its not that they dont acknowledge the fact that there engines have no low torque...its just to have higher horsepower at the higher rpms..you sacrifice torque...im not sure of the exact calculations...but torge and hp are related through rpms...so its not like they can just add torque here and there without effecting hp

hp=torque x rpm, so if the torque curve is ideally flat, ( that means it has same torque across the whole rpm range) , then the horsepower is just proportional to rpm.

Is that torque figure (232 Ft.) taken at the crank, or wheels?

All manufacturers rate it at the crank. The horsepower and torque at the wheels would be much less.

And no, they wouldn't lie about the Torque curve. A lot of car companies (Ford comes to mind) have gotten into trouble by stating incorrect numbers.

I feel that our TLS has great low end tq, especially for a Honda. It pulls our 3 seater waverunner so well at lower revs, that I truly forget I'm towing on occasion :p

One thing that I have noticed, though, is that the TLS' power curve looks to be less peaky than the standard TL. We have 232 tq around 3400 rpms while the standard TL doesn't hit max tq until like 4700. My daily driver is a turbo vehicle with lots of low end and I enjoy the low end on our TL

WHen I test drove TL-S, I feel it does have similar low end torque at around 2000rpm as 94 Maixma does.

But for TL-p that I finally bought, it definitely doesn't have a torque even close to 180lb-ft.
