For those who didn't see the story, it was about the cost of damage to mid-size cars that hit objects at low speed, like a flat surface or a pole. The resulting rating is based on how expensive it was to repair the car.
The report is online at:

http://www.msnbc.com/news/755983.asp

Personally, I think this was a useless test. If someone is really going to base their car purchase on how much it will cost to repair a fender bender, then they shouldn't be buying a car for over $26k in the first place. The highest rating only applies to damage that is $500 or under? The painted bumpers on most cars cost more than that!

They said that they were going to report the full-on collision tests of these same cars on Tuesday, so that's something to watch for.

It was kinda funny how toyota cheated just to make there car look good in the test on the rear bumper. They put that metal across that one part of the bumper for that test. lol!!!

"O’Neill advises if you own a new Toyota Camry and have an accident with a pole, be sure to hit it dead center."

Ditto that. If you can afford a $30k car, most of you can afford the insurance to pay for said damage or the actual cost of the repair. I'm personally more concerned about protection in higher speed crashes, with which the TL scores favorably. Besides, we all know that bumpers in their current form provide very little protection in low-speed accidents.
